Another USFK sevicemember has lost their life due to a taxi:
A U.S. Army sergeant stationed at Camp Walker in Daegu, South Korea, died April 10 after being hit by a taxi, the Army announced Thursday.Sgt. Brian Wayne Davis, 29, of Goldsboro, N.C., was pronounced dead shortly after 4 a.m. at Yong Nam University Hospital, according to an Army news release.
Davis was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 36th Signal Battalion, 1st Signal Brigade.
A memorial service was held Thursday afternoon at the Camp Walker Chapel, a brigade spokeswoman said. Davis is survived by three sisters.

Just last month two Kunsan airmen were left in critical condition when they were in a taxi cab accident. One of these injured soldiers a commenter claimed passed away though I have not confirmed that yet. Let’s also not forget Specialist Vang Her who was killed by a taxi cab under highly suspicious circumstances. The incidents between servicemembers and taxis continues.

28,000 US service members assigned to a country that has hundreds of thousands of taxis.
I think it's safe to assume things like this will happen every now and then.

what? no candlelight vigils..

It's now become a cheap cliche.

There are over 20,000 English teachers, not in uniforms of course, what's the death tally on them Mr. Statistics?

A LTC close to retirement got hit by a bus last year. I think he was jaywalking. Don't remember details, but he was crossing towards Yongsan station.
I heard this Daegu incident happened 3 AM. He was engaged and I heard his fiancé was at the memorial service. I think she was Filipina.

While this site : http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=11306868204… is comical in nature, it still shows many realities of driving here in Korea.

It was always a cheap stunt. Korean kills an American, nothing to see folks..move along. American kills a Korean and regardless of circumstances it is murder. How many times did you march on the US embassay Tom?
9:53 pm on April 17th, 2010 9
Well maybe if the American didn't get in the way of the taxi cab, he wouldn't have gotten killed. Look before you walk next time.

I'll make you a deal – you explain how your question has any relevance to this thread, and I'll do the research and provide you an answer Mr. Smart A$$.
Now why don't you go out and play in the middle of busy street…and dodge taxis for the rest of the day.

Brian was my best friend from Goldsboro NC and regradless of how the accident occured, you all should pay a little respect to a soldier who died way too young. He had done nothing but serve his country for the past 4 years, and he has been away from his home for over 3. He was getting married in just 6 days when the accident occured, and he made plans to visit the states again within a month. I know people have a right to an opinion, but everyone on here should have been raised with enough sense to respect the deceased!!!

RIP!!! Thanks for serving. You were to good to die in Korea for Korea.
Again, Korea is not worth one drop of American foreign blood or suffering, whether it be in time of war or not.

Don't let Tom's words bother you…he suffers from narcissistic personality disorder. He actually thinks people should listen to what he says because he's so much smarter than the rest of us. He's just a douchebag loner though…

He was Baiting. He is a Master at it.

I was actually friends with LTC F (can't spell his last name for a damn). Its kinda ironic and screwed up that if a soldier injures / kills a local national the whole country goes bat sh!t crazy, but if a local national kills / injures a soldier … we hear nothing of it. Someone higher up NEEDS to make an issue over this, something or anything to get it on Koren TV and in the media.

It's the way we Koreans are. If you kill one of us we go hysterical. If we accidentally kill a fellow Korean(or anyWON else) all we really want to do is pay as little as possible and move on.

To be fair, I've seen similar reactions from Americans. I grew up around Washington, DC where there are large number of diplomats. A year never went by without some drama surrounding a diplomat or diplmats' family members hurting someone in an accident, damaging property or committing crimes. Because of diplomatic immunity (like SOFA on steroids) they couldn't be touched. This tended to get we locals up in arms.
That all said, it wasn't as bad as the situation in Korea. We would pretty much automatically assume the diplomat was in the wrong, but if the facts came out showing it to be an honest to God mistake, everyone calmed down.

So tell me, how many times have Koreans run over American children with tanks in middle of Washington or New York?
4:59 am on April 19th, 2010 20
You're welcome to try.
5:40 am on April 19th, 2010 21
So Tom, tell me how many Americans have walked on to a Korean university campus and just started killing?
6:03 am on April 19th, 2010 22
Seriously, I think the best way to deal with Tom is to ignore him when he makes stupid comments. He'll either start making constructive comments or he'll leave. I'm betting on the latter, but either way it's best not to feed trolls.
7:16 am on April 19th, 2010 23
Tom – you should know the answer to your question. It's the same number of times Americans have run over Korean children with tanks in Seoul or Taegu.

Tom, Im a little disturbed by what you write. It doesnt take us walking in the road to get hit by one of these drivers. Another soldier got killed last night right outside Walker in Daegu Korea by a KN. He was walking on the side of the road, right beside the building. If you had seen this happen, youd think twice about what youd write (believe me) Im still shaken from seeing it. Ever seen someones skin get pulled away from their spine? Yeah. You didnt consider that maybe it was the DRIVER'S fault? Its always the soldier's fault isnt it?
Well I hope YOU sleep soundly tonight, because believe me, my nightmares arent going to let me.
