Here is a story I was notified of via e-mail that maybe somebody reading this can help solve. Sometime last year a monument on Camp Castle went missing that was placed there in 1996 by Tom Cappel, a Korean war veteran and POW. Mr. Cappel comes back almost every year to Korea, but was unable to do so last year. When he visited this year he noticed the monument was missing:
Mr. Cappel has been to DPW as well as garrison command at Camp Casey and no one knows where the monument went. The Engineer “Castle” that was with the monument was moved to Camp Casey, but the monument is missing. The monument pictured below has got to be stuffed in storage somewhere in the Camp Casey area:
So if someone has seen this monument or has any information on where it may be please leave a comment and lets try to find it for Mr. Cappel.

Good luck to everyone in retrieving the monument.
Trivia: Which state has the most Korean War memorials? According to the <a>Historical Marker Database, it's tiny Connecticut, with eleven. Next is Ohio, with ten.

This comes from a good source:
I would recommend they check with the division museum if they haven't already. That failing I would check with the 702d or 302d. One of them occupied Castle when the 2d Engr was inactivated.

The 2ID museum director has been emailed, no response yet. This is sad. I think the 2ID CG should get involved and hammer this home. I know he's a busy man but the garrison salamander, er, commander is not taking this seriously. This thing is somewhere and someone knows where.

It's COMPLETELY F'd up that a commander would let this happen– these old guys are our heritage. They earned being remembered by all of us.

Not to mention current soldiers may see this and realize how easily their efforts and sacrifices may be forgotten. Not a good thing.

Recommend strongly that Mr. Cappel get in touch with Stars and Stripes, nothing like bad publicity in our age of political correctness/cover you’re a** to get the attention of senior leaders.

S&S has already been contacted.

But perhaps if everyone reading this contacts Stripes, it might help them along as to whether they want to get involved in this.
