Wonder how many months a DPRK person would have to work to afford one of those outifts?

Those clothes are probably made of vinalon, which means anyone wearing those clothes probably feels like they've been wrapped in plastic tarp (literally and figuratively so).

Boy, if that doesn't get your motor going, surely there's something wrong with you…

Teadrinker had an interesting comment about the clothes were probably made of vinalon which is certainly correct. The vinalon story is interesting & very instructive about the NK regime. Vinalon was developed in Oct 1939 by Dr Lee Seung-Ki(and others) who later defected to NK. It was developed two years after the development of nylon. The raw materials of vinalon are limestone & anthracite coal which are both found in abundance in NK. Vinalon is heat & chemical resistant but is durable & stiff, difficult to dye, & very uncomfortable to wear as Teadrinker wrote. Another famous NK scientist, Dr Yeo Kyung Koo doubted the practicality of focusing on vinalon & argued that a nylon factory should be built. He got in a P'ing contest with Kim Il-Sung, guess who won? Dr Yeo committed suicide in 1977. NK considers vinalon a representative of juche even though the fact is no one outside of NK wants to buy vinalon. The world will be better off when this regime implodes.

N. Korea is stuck where China was back in the 50s and 60s.
