South Korea Advances In the World Cup After 2-2 Tie With Nigeria

I’m not sure if the South Koreans were the better team out there today because Nigeria blew so many chances.  Korea really needs to do something about their defense in the next round because it seems at times guys get caught sleeping at times.

korea nigeria

Congratulations though to Korea for the 2-2 tie that allows them to move on to the next round.

I think both teams were blowing some chances.

The South Koreans weren't bad, though they seemed amateurish in the middle when I decided to forget my jinx and tune in, but the Nigerians were looking like they gave up in the second half, except at the end.

Whoever went forward after that would have deserved to go forward, but not enthusiastically.

What an ugly game. Korea's defence is so sloppy, they should have put more priority on developing players after the last World Cup. Every parent probably wants their kid to play forward or keeper. You need a whole team to win. Last, the defenders never push up to put pressure on the other team's forwards to stay onside. They have no tactics or strategy and they can't pass if their life depended on it. My old city soccer team sweeper had more tactics and strategies than the Korean defenders.

Congratulations to the South Korean team. The next match is Saturday night vs Uruguay, so at least one more wild night in Korea caused by the soccer team.

Bad defense? Hasn't it always been a characteristic failing of South Korean teams to discount the importance of defense? Wasn't defense a consideration Guus Hiddink tried to impress upon the 2002 team?

Is this destiny for a South Korean team: one win, one loss, one tie, and then put your fate in the hands of the right team winning, to gain a berth in the next round?

First of all, South Korea exists 'Seouly' because they had a bad defense in the late 40's, early 50's. That aside. I'd love to see these guys play football.

As someone who is only watching World Cup games to see the match ups between some countries, parts of this game called soccer are annoying for me to watch. I particularly dislike the dramatic acting players are required to do every time they are brushed, bumped or tripped.

Growing up watching sports where guys continue to play half a game with broken bones, seeing guys wailing and crying on the turf with no real injury seems extremely pansy to me.

    I don't follow soccer…

    …but that's an unusual score, isn't it?

Isn't soccer usually scored in binary?

I could hardly contain my excitement at the sheer action involved when the first few games had heart-stopping scores like 1-1, 0-0, 1-0, 1-1, 1-0, and 1-0.

    Woo-hoo!

Soccer is truly a game for the unwashed masses of third-world countries… who are used to running around making a big show yet accomplishing little.

I'm not crazy about futbol either. But, a student told me it's too easy to score in basketball. He said, soccer requires more teamwork and is more beautiful. Really I think it's just a derivation of hockey or lacrosse. I don't know which came first actually. All these tournaments are little more than circuses and opiates. Now, thumb wrestling, there's a sport!

"I particularly dislike the dramatic acting players are required to do every time they are brushed, bumped or tripped."

Acting is not the Korean team's fault, they learned it from "Holywood Action"/Korean nickname for Apollo Anton Ohno(American short track speed skater).

I was hoping it would be a quiet day, but I did get some free popcorn at the bank. I'm sure all the restaurants/HOFS are very happy there will be 3 more games. Is that correct, are they gauranteed 3 more?

Association Football (Soccer): The modern game was codified in England following the formation of The Football Association, whose 1863 Laws of the Game created the foundations for the way the sport is played today.

    The more you know, ;-)

No. They are in what is known as the knockout stage. If you loose you are finished.

I'd believe it if the Korean team had a strong offense.

It seems most of today's games had their official start in the mid-19th Century. I still have to go with lacrosse. And, there are subtle differences , as well as the obvious ones. A big rectangle is about all the two games share.

But, don't you know, Korea is the little engine that jerked forward and sputtered!

After the last goal, it sputtered and died.

#7 Football is not a contact sport like American Football. So if all the player are faking injury the way they do is just to have an advantage, like a free kick, the elimination of a player from the other team.

Also since there is only one ref on the field and two on the sides. They can't see everything. So if they don't introduce "video chalanges" to review mistakes the ref didn't see. The players will continue faking, and team will be qualified like the french team with the luck of one holy hand.

Anyway, Nigeria really mised one easy goal. I still can't belive he mist that shoot.
