Korean-American Arrested In New York for Operating Prostitution Ring

Via a reader tip comes this story of a Korean woman in Queens who was arrested pimping out other Korean women:

They answered help-wanted ads for nail salons and wound up sex slaves, forced into a life of prostitution by a malevolent madam.

Prosecutors on Tuesday charged a Queens woman with running the operation that farmed out young Korean immigrants to Long Island massage parlors.

Jin Hua Cui, 44, allegedly lived the high life in a million-dollar mansion at the expense of naive women who answered ads in Korean language newspapers, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

“Women would respond thinking that they were going to work at a nail salon. She then forced them into prostitution through threats of violence, intimidation and embarrassment,” Spota said.

“If they did not cooperate she would reveal to their family, friends and members of the community in Flushing that they were working as prostitutes and threaten to have Chinese gangs kill them.”

During a four-month investigation, detectives captured footage and photographs of the women – who spoke little or no English – being driven every morning to massage parlors in Huntington Station and Hicksville.

They were forced to have sex for between $60 and $80, but Cui pocketed all but the tips, authorities said. Prosecutors said at least seven women were duped.

A sign in the window of the Huntington Station space advertised a “Stimulus Plan” and “Asian Bodywork.” The johns were solicited with ads on Craigslist promising attention from “very lovely” girls.  [NY Daily News]

You can read more at the link, but nothing is mentioned on whether these girls were illegals or not.  I suspect they probably were.  It would be an interesting stat I think if someone could figure out whether or not the US visa waiver for Korea has led to an increase in prostitution from Koreans in the US?

Wait a minute. They have Koreans running prostitution and it does not involve USFK personnel? How is this possible. All thought all of Korea's prostitution related ills were 100% a USFK created problem. How about that? I didn't know prostitution existed outside the villes.

Jin Hua Cui is a Chinese name, and the press identifies her as one even though she looks amazingly like Sandra Oh. So your title is wrong.

    GI Korea:

Don't wanna rain on your gloatfest, but how about getting your facts straight:

    1) "Cui" is a Chinese surname;

    2) Jin Hua Cui is Chinese according to the Nydailynews.com article you cited http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2010/06/29/20

"Prosecutors say Cui, who is Chinese, used intimidation."

    3) Which is further corroborated by this report from a WABC-TV affiliate in NYC:

"Cui, who authorities say is Chinese, pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and promoting prostitution and was held on $10,000 bail."

Well to his defense, the article heading said she was Korean. I think they confused her being Korean and her preying on Korean women. She obviously speaks Korean well enough to get her job done.

And damnit .. USFK needs to fix this problem. Prostitution in USFK is so bad its beginning to spread to other parts of the world. Soon it'll spread to the Philippines and then we'll all be screwed

Cui Jinhua = Choi Geum-hwa in Korean. Cui/Choi is a common Joseonjok surname. A Korean speaker would have a much easier time recruiting Korean women.

Maybe she is ethnic Korean from the Manchuria region of China?

So she lived in a Tudor mansion? She must have been doing this for a couple decades or so….

Anyways, it seems most of these busts happen in the mid-Atlantic states or California. If the authorities really want to make a catch, they should check out the so-called “Bible Belt.”
