Picture of the Day: Swimming Across the Han River

Elementary school children swim across the Han River from Hangang Citizens' Park to Ddukseom in Seoul Wednesday afternoon to commemorate the 1950-53 Korean War. An estimated 700 children from 125 Seoul elementary schools took part in the 15th annual event.

    The children dodged many used condoms, tampons and dead animals floating in the river. Many of them were treated for chemical burns and needed decontamination by the 2037th chemical battalion upon exiting the water.

    I was there (1st Cav CCq)in 61-63. Wasn't much different, though some of the names were different. Crossed Libby Bridge every day on way to job on Op. 191.

    There's not f'ing way I'd let my kid swim across that river anywhere near Seoul.
