Just further evidence of how useless the UN Security Council is:
The U.N. Security Council on Friday condemned a deadly attack on a South Korean warship that killed 46 sailors and pointed a finger toward North Korea but didn’t directly blame the reclusive communist nation.
North Korea’s U.N. Ambassador Sin Son Ho called it “our great diplomatic victory,” stressing again that his country had nothing to do with the sinking of the 1,200-ton Cheonan on March 26. U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said he wouldn’t react “to overblown rhetoric.”
North Korea previously warned that its military forces would respond if the council questioned or condemned the country over the sinking, and ambassador Sin compared the situation on the Korean peninsula to a “trigger” that may explode “at any moment.” At the same time, he said North Korea will make “efforts” to continue the denuclearization process through six-party talks, which Pyongyang abandoned in December 2008, and to replace the Armistice Agreement that ended the 1950-53 Korean War with a new peace treaty.
The statement about the ship sinking, approved by all 15 council members, expressed “deep concern” over the findings of a South Korean-led international investigation that concluded that a North Korean torpedo fired by a North Korean submarine sank the Cheonan.
The statement, read by the council president, condemns the attack and calls for “appropriate and peaceful measures to be taken against those responsible.”
But it doesn’t identify who is responsible and notes North Korea’s response “that it had nothing to do with the incident.” [Stars & Stripes]
This is of course a huge victory for North Korea and the Chinese, which One Free Korea provides the best summary of:
The Chinese must be very pleased with themselves. They’ve gotten everything they wanted, and the mildly unpleasant words from President Obama and the State Department will soon be gone and forgotten. Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Eun must be the most pleased of all. They’ll be able to portray this as the military and diplomatic victory they need to help propel Jung Eun into September’s meeting of the Grand People’s assembly as a victor over North Korea’s enemies. All has gone as well as they could possibly have hoped. They’ve escaped any significant consequence for this attack, drawn China closer to North Korea and inflamed its differences with America and South Korea, and reaffirmed the gullible stupidity — though it calls itself skepticism! — of the herds of bleating imbeciles who make up somewhere between 30 and 40 percent of the South Korean population. Finally what posting about the UN and resolutions dealing with North Korea would be complete with this video:

Thanks, if you wouldn't have posted it, I would have.
I just never get tired of watching that.

People in Korea cared a couple months ago, they don't really care anymore. The only people that do are the ones who lost family.

Looks like Kim Jong-Il got away with this one. How horrible it must be for the families who lost sons.

Yes it must be but I knew nothing would come of it. The investigation was just a time card that the gov't played for people to settle down somewhat. It took a month and by then people were uninterested.

I say get the US out of the UN then kick the UN out of the US. We pay I think 25% of the UN's budget but we only have one vote. With the Libyans on the human rights committee & the Iranians on the women's rights committee, how long before the American people get sick of this crap & decide to get our pipers out of the UN.

I agree though you need to get out of the UN; it's a rubber stamp agency and a waste of money for everyone. It's hypocracy cubed.
It's about as much of a joke as obama winning the peace prize and bernake as Time's man of the year.

The USA getting out the UN would be wonderful.

Yeah. Cool. Because we want China, Venezuela and Iran making decisions for the world. Yes, the UN is mostly worthless but talking is generally better than fighting.
