Sohn Jie-ae has been the Seoul CNN bureau chief for as long as I can remember and I guess she has finally gotten tired of only reporting on the latest North Korean provocation, which seems like the only type of news that comes out of Seoul from CNN:
Sohn Jie-ae, former head of CNN’s Seoul bureau and current spokeswoman for Korea’s G-20 preparation committee, was appointed secretary to President Lee Myung-bak for overseas public relations, Lee’s office announced yesterday.
The Blue House created the post earlier this month to strengthen its international outreach as the administration stages the “Global Korea” campaign. Public relations activities are set to increase with South Korea hosting the G-20 Summit in November and a nuclear security summit in 2012.
Sohn has served as spokeswoman for the Presidential Committee for the G-20 Summit since February. She was previously the head of CNN’s Seoul office since it opened in 1995.
Sohn will continue her work at the committee and take up her new post after the G-20 meeting in November, Blue House spokeswoman Kim Hee-jung told reporters. [Joong Ang Ilbo]

I would have thought a CNN reporter would be (more at home) more qualified, for work promoting "Best Korea".

With those raised eyebrows and chicken cutlet cheeks, I probably wouldn't have recognized her without seeing the headline and story. Janice Dickerson is not a role model for aging gracefully.

I think she's probably a good pick for the job.

Sonagi, so how old are you? Can you look as good as her, when you reach 48 and approaching 50? She started out her career in 1985, that's a 25 year career!

For her age she looks pretty damn good! Asian women hold up really well, with only a little effort. Better than most american cows—I mean women. Tom, we found common ground yet again.

Speaking of fat cows..
What about American trailer trash men in baseball caps with hunting rifles, driving dirty beat up Ford pickups?

We all agree all this one. I'm still hoping for wider aisles at the PX and the Commissary. Between the buffarillas (ok, battlecattle) and their filthy, snotty, shitty brats a fellow can't get through there to by a can of chili.
As far as Sohn Jie-ae goes, she seems to have taken care of herself and could likely still bring in a fairly good hourly rate on the pro circuit…

So who will CNN replace her with?

tom 11. We agree there also. I see them often while driving in my 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse, when I leave the health food store in my tank top and do-rag. After doing four sets of six on the bench with 200lbs back at the garage.

I can't wait until after the G20/November when I won't have to see/hear her on CNN report everything is beautiful in S. Korea crap anymore.

John #13 who cares? Who watches CNN anyway?
