South Carolina Senate Candidate Alvin Greene Had Poor Military Performance

The unemployed veteran that won the South Carolina Democratic primary without campaigning is now under the media microscope and what has been uncovered will likely end his political career:

Surprise U.S. Senate nominee Alvin Greene frequently mentions his 13 years of military service, but records obtained Thursday by The Associated Press show that the veteran who has called himself an “American hero” was considered a lackluster service member at best.”The records, which document his superiors’ decisions to pass over Greene for promotion, cite mistakes as severe as improperly uploading sensitive intelligence information to a military server, and as basic as an overall inability to clearly express his thoughts and perform basic tasks.”  [Associated Press]

I actually knew quite a few soldiers like this over the years.  I guess when I did a counseling statement on them I should have recommended they run for Congress.  Really, Greene couldn’t be any worse of a Congress person then this woman?

LTC P over at OPFOR is wondering where was this level of media scrutiny from the Associated Press of a flashy Illinois Senator in 2008?

Carefull gi korea! Someone might call you a racist or bigoted. No white people in the list. Well you do have a Mulatto, so you might be ok. But to be fully covered you should have the VP in the list. No brain surgeon is he. Which is the reason he was picked.

What, another one??? Where and when is this (faking military records) going to end, people? :!:

So I guess he was a dumb hero?

Nobody should trust what an American says, if he says he was a hero in some war(s). Chances are, he's telling lies about his record to make himself look good and to pretend that he's somekind of a super hero.

Well, could he ever be worse than the infamous Rep. Steve King (R) or worse than Rep. Michele Bachmann (R) (a woman) who would rescind suffrage to women in the name of "traditional values"? While we're at it, how about Senator Saxby Chambliss (R), who attacked incumbent Max Cleland as being soft on defense? Max Cleland lost both legs and an arm in Vietnam and earned Silver and Bronze Stars? Yup, politicians say stupid things all the time.

Heck, Sarah Palin isn't exactly an erudite scholar.

The relative location of the fine line separating an erudite poster from a pedantic poster is determined by frequency of usage for "erudite".

Once is frequently enough to put one on the wrong side of that line.

It is very clear that this guy is in no way fit to be a U.S Senator. On the other hand I didn't read anything in that article that would constitute a poor service record. Sounds like just a few bad evals or counsellings. Being a little slow or not being very articulate does not make one a bad soldier. In that case the U.S military would be in a lot of trouble because we have an abundance of those kind of folks.

However, I did hear he he was involuntarily separated so I would like to hear the story behind that.

    #6,

You used it twice more than I did, so there you go.

Hey Tom, I have noted your astute posts regarding the military for quite some time, just out of curiosity, which armed forces did you serve with?

I say give him a chance. Maybe this guy can at least balance a check book, unlike all those well spoken, smooth talking MBA's and lawyers we usually send to DC.

The following is from an AF times article:

Greene is “usually capable of handling mundane tasks with supervision” but is “not able to adapt to any changes to daily routine,” the reviewer wrote, also noting that Greene had received multiple disciplinary actions for failing to perform his duties.

Greene was also written up for posting sensitive information on a military Internet server, a mistake that resulted in a three-day work stoppage. Records showed Greene was kept at Shaw while the rest of his unit deployed after leadership “recognized his inability to contribute to the wartime mission.

Huh? What did I use twice more than you did?

You may have something. Those who are the most educated are more easily indoctrinated. Not that I would trust his judgment anymore than I trust other politicians, I get the feeling this guy will be doing what he truly feels is right.

He looks like a cross between Gary Coleman and Fat Albert™. (I know, b/c I used to have a Fat Albert & the Crosby Kids Thermos™ brand lunchbox, a show which I religiously watched every Saturday morning from 1972-1980 when I was a kid.) I also was a big fan of Diff'rent Strokes. Having said that, does that make me a racist?

13 "Those who ae the most educated are more easily indoctrinated." I hadn't noticed. ;-)

But I do agree that Mr Green would likely do "what he truly feels is right".

14 No Hans it doesn't, but there are people who will twist it into what they wish it to sound like, as you know.

    #15,

Yes, you got my point. What he truly feels is right might be illogical, but interest groups probably won't be able to bribe him.

It is a kick pushing the emotion button some people have exposed. Besides, I do this for the most part went I wakeup before food and coffee. So I really am a grumpy old man in the morning. And hungry! ;-)

Alvin Greene won that election because he kept his mouth shut and basically stood as a "None of the above" choice on the ballot. The official Democratic candidate lost that election because voters knew him well and didn't like what they saw. Plus, it wouldn't be the first time a political party had lost touch with the voters in a state. If the State Democratic party in South Carolina continues to ignore the obvious message in the election results, then it will continue to lose elections to "None of the above" candidates like Greene.

Never spoke to an otherwise intelligent person well-versed in the scientific method who was an adamant believer in intelligent design (which is now, for all intents and purposes, American Christian propaganda)? ;-)

Just to make some waves, I do believe in one God. I also believe in evolution. Human nature. Short skirts. Firm tities. Football. The "golden rule". Tho sometimes I sub "as" with "before". Warm guns. Good whiskey. A good "dip" of Cope. Exercise. Liberals are good "tools" for Progressives. Most individuals are quite ignorant, some are my friends.

Basiclly, I'm not very "welcome" in most "groups". I'm proud of that!

I need to learn to brew beer. Some have called me a Christian. But not any Christians.

I guess this man is as qualified as most politicians. But seriously if this man is unable to keep sensitive information under wraps if he is elected I hope they don't put him on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
