Camp Casey Elementary School Set To Open This Month

» by in: USFK

Is this the sign of a camp about to close?  You be the judge:

Major construction on the new Camp Casey Elementary School has been completed and final preparations are under way to have classrooms ready for the first day of school Aug. 30.

The K-8 school, about 40 miles north of Seoul, is being outfitted with desks, books, and sports and technological equipment, according to a Department of Defense Dependents School news release.

The school is expected to open with about 250 students. The building of an addition that will double capacity is planned for the 2011-12 school year.  [Stars & Stripes]

i was the project engineer on that building back in 2001; it was a combined admin/finance center back then. It has a good layout for a school and some important features too…no kitchen though, i wonder how they will do lunches?

#1 – maybe they'll bring them in from off-site. I think the lunchrooms in most schools in Korea are an AAFES operation, yes? So – maybe AAFES will prepare the food somewhere else such as the Casey food court and take it over. I don't see it being like the High School at Yongsan where there is no cafeteria. I don't think that'll work for K through 8…

Give them MREs, they can eat on the perimeter facing out! Stand to!

Man, who'd thought there'd be an elementary school in Area I. Man I miss the Western Cooridor…

    DAMN! Things have changed.

Still have a "curfew" for the Troops? If so, how do they explain THAT?

Sure ain't ready to, (fight tonight) any longer.

Someone sigh a treaty of Peace while I was cutting the grass?

Where can I get "tour" tickets?

  • Leon LaPorte

    Curfew is no more.

The main mission for the only heavy maneuver brigade on penn is NEO. No Bullshit. REALLY.

They never were allowed to fight tonight, or any other time. Even to defend themselves or their "battle buddy".

Tour tickets are available at the USO.

    Leon, Retired GI…

In the interests of enforcing my copyright, when you use "battle cattle" in any written form, you need to include "(c)2010 ChickenHeadLab"

    Thank you for your consideration.

    You dirty rat bastards!

I not only came up with it, but I Googled it, found that it was not in use, posted this information and asked that everyone use it to describe thick military women…

I bet you lame funkers don't even remember about 15 years ago when I invented the Internet!

I suggest you strike while the iron is hot:

New from Blammo! Battle Cattle((c)2010 ChickenHeadLab) ,Fully Poseable Action Figures.

Get 'em made cheap in China with lead based paint and sell them at the PX.

The US Military mission on penn has shifted dramatically in the past five years or so. Its not longer fighting the norks but supplying the ROKs with Intel / Supply / Communications and Air / Sea superiority. The ROK's are supposed to take care of the ground with their large military of 750K. The idea is that we don't get too directly involved so that the Chinese don't get involved either and thus regional stability is somewhat maintained.

On the whole base relocation thing, who knows these days. The only thing set down is that EUSA HQ is moving to CP Humphreys and most of the subordinate commands in Yongsan should be moving with them. Cassey is a weird case because I don't think 2ID wants to give up its autonomy. 2ID land is a different beast from the rest of SK because their command can randomly dictate various policy's and rules, if they were to move to Humphrey s (Area III) it would be difficult enforcing all that. So who knows what their gonna do to try to keep Cassey open.

A large chunk of 2ID (2 CAB) is already at Camp Humphreys.

And while 2ID still enjoys some autonomy, it's nothing like the good ol' days.

A school at Casey is needed because of all the dependants there.

Many American Civilians have Divorced their Korean wives and married Filipinas with many kids.

Simple economics, the PI girls are taken care o biznes.

On the side there are the GI's who marry the bar gurls mit kinder.

Does anyone have any information or comments on how good or bad the DOD schools are?

I had a friend who went to international school in ROK and through that connection knew who went to the DOD schools in ROK. It's just like school in suburb of US. Even had drive by shooting. Didn't know what he meant by that.

He told me the high school had bought expensive Sun (yes Sun) workstations for use by students back in 1990's. Some special grant to make the school look good.

Was referring to HQ 2ID, where the generals office is and his big flag is waving outside the building. As long as that general is the highest ranking in that area nobody wants to questions the rules / policy's enforced by his staff. You see this same thing in Area IV between IMA and 19th ESC. Technically IMA runs the garrison but whatever the 19th CG says goes.

    LOL, you're killing me

Seriously though; if the size of the dependent wives over here is indicative of what America has become, I'm not so sure I really want to go back. And crimony, they're everywhere. No matter where I go; post office, commissary, BX/PX…I'm trying to get around an L-1011 and her offspring, and she thinks she's dressed to kill…yeah baby, nothing sexier than thighs that look like cottage cheese under saran wrap :|

Udder Clutter or Herd Turds (c)2010 ChickenHeadLab, come to mind.

I am curious to find out what blog system you’re working with? I’m experiencing some small security problems with my latest website and I’d like to find something more safe. Do you have any recommendations?

    21. Uh nice try. Talk to your system admin.

Anyhoo, an update on this subject.

The Golf Course club was forced to remove the slot machines and eliminate the smoking area (really the only thing that made it worth while since the menu never changes, the food sucks and the service sucks ass, but that’s another topic) to make it more accessible to families and family friendly.

The food court between 11:00-13:00 is a write off. Total madness zone. Many have taken to hitting the commissary and eating lunch at the office, or heading out the gate. Meantime – all the “family friendly” MWR clubs are in the red and losing their ass and no one seems to know why.
