That's the 38선 휴게소.

    Yang Yang, I believe.

That would be the 38선 휴게소 at Soyang Lake.

    It's located on 국도 44번.

Unless they have done some remodeling I think you guys are mistaken.

Cloying Odor, I'm not mistaken. Check it out:

That particular rest area is famous for it's views of Soyang Lake. It's not in Yangyang, but rather Chuncheon.

Chuncheon, that's far from the 38th…Then again, the one in Yangyang isn't any closer (yes, there's one there too…and one in Kangnung also, I think).

…Then again, I heard of 5 year-olds who've studied English at Yale and Harvard. ;-)

I'm not sure anyone has gotten it completely right yet so I'll take a stab at it.

It's the 38선 휴게소 in Yangyang—<a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=38%EC%84%A0+%ED%9C%B4%EA%B2%8C%EC%86%8C&sll=38.005361,128.732214&sspn=0.046936,0.111494&ie=UTF8&hq=38%EC%84%A0+%ED%9C%B4%EA%B2%8C%EC%86%8C&hnear=&z=14&iwloc=A" rel="nofollow">강원 양양군 현북면 잔교리 to be precise.

Pace Milton (and the Naver blogger), it's on the 7번 국도, not the 44번.

And while Teadrinker was the closest so far, he's incorrect to say that it's not close to the 38th Parallel—it sits almost exactly on the line (38.005361 degrees north, according to Google Maps). The post-war MDL swings northward such that much of Gangwon-do lies north of 38 degrees north latitude.

Oops, I'm wrong, and Milton's right. This is the 38선 휴게소 on the 44번 국도 at Soyang Lake—though it's in Inje-gun, not Chuncheon. It does look an awful lot like the one in Yangyang. And like the one in Yangyang, it also sits almost exactly astride the 38th (38.001291 degrees north latitude to be precise).

So it's not the 38 Rest stop on Highway 43, right on the Hantan river, north of Pocheon? I think the village used to be Yangmun 1 Ri.

Right, because that wasn't my guess at all.

Teadrinker, we were both wrong. The photos confirm that it's the one at Soyang Lake on Highway No. 44, not the one in Yangyang on 7.

    Snark FAIL.

Milton got it. This rest stop is just east of Chuncheon near Inje:

    #14,

Oooh, that hurts coming from the D-minus geography student who “enlightened” us with “Chuncheon, that’s far from the 38th… Then again, the one in Yangyang isn’t any closer.”

    Chuncheon: 37°52′N 127°44′E

    Yangyang 38선 휴게소: 38° 0′ 19.2996″N 128° 43′ 55.9698″E

    #15,

Sure, whatever. The point I was making is that you won't be able to see the 38th from either one.

The one in Chuncheon is 58.37km from the 38th, so I was right about that one. I thought the one in Yangyang was in Yangyang city, which is about 20km North of the 38th, but it's not. It's actually near Naksan Beach, which is 20km further South in Yanyang County, not Yanyang City.

Whatever, buddy. The one in Chuncheon (actually Inje-gun) sits at 38° 0′ 5.31″N. The one in Yangyang-gun is at 38° 0′ 19.2996″N. Either one is easily within sight of the 38th, and you continue to be full of crap.
