Kang Ki-bab Fine for Political Violence to Stand

It looks like the face of the Korean left in the National Assembly Kang Ki-bab will in fact have to pay the fine he received for his political violence:

A Seoul appeals court on Friday overturned a lower court’s not guilty verdict for Rep. Kang Ki-kab, who was indicted for in-house violence, declaring the former chairman of the ultra-progressive Democratic Labor Party (DLP) guilty.

The appellate section of the Seoul Southern District Court slapped a fine of 3 million won (US$2,574) on Kang for obstructing parliamentary operations during a 2008 protest of a bill on the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.

The 57-year-old Kang was accused of interfering with security guards’ duties by assaulting them and using foul language in protest of their forced breakup of a DLP lawmakers’ sit-in against the free trade bill with the U.S.

In January, a lower court acquitted Kang of the charges, saying that the legislator was entitled to protest as a party leader.

But the Seoul Southern District Court’s appellate department overturned the ruling, saying Kang’s violent behavior constitutes obstructing officials’ duties and that he should have taken due process to express his opposition.  [Yonhap]

Some readers may remember that Kang was involved with the violent anti-US beef demonstrations and that he is a member of the Democratic Labor Party (DLP) which was linked to a major North Korean spy scandal.  I guess the least he could do is pay a couple of thousand dollars for all the trouble he has created over the years.

The Korean left claims to be the ones who made Korea democratic but then they let fools run their party. Who votes for idiots like Kang Ki-bab? All he ever does is block the national assembly from holding sessions. Has he ever sponsored or been a part of a group that passed any meangingful legislation? Does he actually vote on anything at all? Ever? How is that supporting a democracy?
