By Via the ROK Drop Open Thread comes this story of Bobbi Ann Finley, the military seductress featured on 20/20:
They are a unique band of brothers. Nine military men bonded together to fight, in their words, a domestic terrorist. Bobbi Ann Finley is reportedly known as the military mistress and the bigamist bride but these men simply call her the devil. The men say she preyed upon them, allegedly stealing not just their money, but also their hearts.
Over the span of nearly two decades, Finley reportedly traveled across the country marrying at least fourteen times and, according to her ex-husbands and former fiances, draining bank accounts in nine states. Finley is also believed to have at least nine children with almost as many men, fathers who say they are left in the dark and want to know the truth.
In June, Finley finally surfaced in New Orleans, where she was arrested and later extradited to Alabama on 2 counts of theft by deception and a misdemeanor charge of writing a bad check. [ABC News 20/20]
This woman should have moved to South Korea and become a juicy girl. It is incredible the crap these servicemembers fell for, but I have seen GI’s fall for similar sob stories in the ville as well that led to their bank accounts being drained. I don’t know what is worse, the person doing the con or the people stupid enough to believe them? I do feel bad though for all the kids that got wrapped into this. What a mess.

This sort of thing went on all the time during Vietnam, and mabe WWII. Women wedding multiple men as they shipped out hoping to cash in on the $10,000 life insurance. All that ever came out of this was congress passing a law take up to 1/2 of a retirees pay to give to these nice ladies.

I think the regulations already have protection for these "wives" and kids fathered by American Service men. It sounds like the Senior NCOs and Commanders need to enforce the rules better. Any child fathered by an American serviceman has a right to child support and access to on-post facilities. The problem may be in identifying the father. Of course DNA is the easy way to do this.

This problem is not unique to Korea. It occurs everwhere. My oldest son, who I adopted and love like my own, was fathered out of wedlock by a serviceman who "shipped out".

Not to play the devil's advocate here, but how common do you think it is for service members to be "intentionally trapped" by these women? I realize this might not hold much water with regard to using a condom in common sense, but common sense can take a back seat to the front seat of a female.

You might find an answer when you compare the number of Korean bargirls that "accidentally" get pregnant now compared to 30 years ago.
An explanation might also be lurking in the observation that Philippine bargirls in the Philippines seem to have a mysteriously higher rate of unplanned pregnancy with stable resident foreigners than with customers just passing through.
Another observable phenomena involves third-rate military girls "accidentally" getting pregnant by guys who wouldn't give them the time of day if they weren't in the land of Queen for a Year… which, in my observation, has led to a 100% divorce rate when they get back to the States and he realized what a dog he married.
While this is all open and observable, and spoken about in whispers behind the backs of those involved when it goes down, for the most part, everybody publicly pretends it is not common… and would rather blame the guy for not using his condom correctly or something.

I had a 23yo electronics tech get married right before deploying to iraq.
One year later he is getting divorced. After she had spent his pay. Ran up his credit cards. Emptied his bank accounts.
Too bad he didn't talk to me before the marriage rather than after.
The JoeC's of the world make me uncomfortable with their (women are the weaker sex and always the victim) thinking. To think that females haven't learned how to secure their meal-ticket is beyond me. I've seen it just too damn often.
The Philippine bar girls are very good at it. Had an E5 in Korea in 2003. His flip wife pumped out a kid every nine months. Stayed pregnant. You could see on his face every day that he had no idea what he had done. Working on #3 when I knew him.
Knew a "third-rate military girl" young E4 at hood. It was well known that I had yellow fever and would not touch a white girl. (good defence) This new troop shows up. Hears about me. Shows up at my AO with a big grin. Cali girl and a flip! That was trouble walkin in the door. She was Married within a year to the first E-5 or above that she could catch.
Some females go to college to catch a meal ticket. Those less fortunate join the army or work the bars.

20/20 – I watched ‘Bobbi Ann & her male harem’ and I’m still LMAO!! 14 white military boys duped (we got married after 2 weeks; after 3 months, she took my money, BOO HOO). When I was stationed in Korea in ’79-’80 I worked on the Orthopedic ward at the 121 Evac Hospital in Yongsan. We had a patient one time who was Hispanic (Puerto Rican I think), I don’t recall why his was in the hospital. This idiot was paying (remember this was 1979 or 1980) $400 per month for his yobo & the girl gave him shankroids (don’t know how to spell it). Speaking of the woman in the photo, I’d feel bad waking up after a drunk and rolling over and seeing this broad. There ain’t no way in hades that I’d ever marry her.

I know an English teacher who married a Filipina juicy in Songtan. As he was in Korea on an expired tourist visa, once he got her out of the club, she had to go back to the Philippines and he couldn’t leave Korea or he would never get back in.
He sent her $500/month “for her housing and food”.
As he had never been there, I explained that it was impossible to spend $500 per month… and that one could support an entire family on $150 or live like a queen alone for $200.
This went on for almost 2 years… until she got so complacent (or tied up with boyfriends and babies) that she only contacted him to ask for the money… which became increasingly irritating and frustrating to him… to the point where he started to suspect that she didn’t take their marriage seriously except as a source of income.
In traditional Filipina style, she destroyed her gravy train through laziness and short-term thinking.
He stopped sending her money and that was that… except he did admit to me that I was right…
…which, with advice on jucies and money, I am ALWAYS right.
