Picture of the Day: Kim Jong-il and LG

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il speaks and gestures in front of a South Korean-made flat-screen TV in a photo released in September by Pyongyang’s Korean Central News Agency. The logo of LG, a leading electronics maker, is clearly marked on the TV’s front. [Yonhap]

He should have bought North Korean! Oh wait. Who in North Korea produces large screen LED TV's? I think they're too busy working on perfecting stick, twig and rock soup.

In North Korea, LG stands for Little Guy. A term of endearment used by the masses when referring to Kim Jong Un – who by the way invented the flat screen monitor.

I guess Americans invented most of these things. You guys can do the monkey work.

KJI isn't exactly Shaquille O'neal when it comes to endorsement deals, but okay..

"I agree to be photographed…er.. half my body, that is, with a small LG tv, for the nominal fee of 100,000,000,000,000,000 Won… or 2 nukes"

Not sure if he's better than LG's other endorsement.

And no, Greg, I don't think that's a body double. His body double looks like the third picture here.

I've read that in hotels in Pyongyang items like TV's & telephones that are made in other countries have the label removed or covered up so that they can't been seen. I guess the person who didn't cover up this label will be joining the NK soccer team coach performing hard labor.

    #10,

You should have seen the hilarious North Korean episode of "Don't Tell My Mother", in which Diego Bunuel gets a laugh out of the washroom in his overpriced (by North Korean standards) hotel room. The sink and toilet were made by American Standard.

This TV undoubtedly came out of LG's Paju factory, west of Munsan, which KJI probably feels is truly in North Korea.
