UPDATE: You can view the video below, via the good folks at This Ain’t Hell.
After watching the video really it isn’t that bad, but regardless I still don’t think a senior officer should be making videos like this; this is basically something you would expect of junior Soldiers. Should the guy be reprimanded or even removed from his command for this like it appears the bleeding hearts want? Heck no, but he deserves an ass chewing by his superior officer, which I’m sure would put an end to his video making days.
I think the fact CNN, the AP, Yahoo, etc. are all making this a front page story says more about them than it does this naval officer. I guess this could be the first test of special victimhood status for gays to see if they can get administrative action taken against this guy for making a video that has the word “fag” in it.
__________________________________________________________________
I can’t believe a guy this high ranking would be stupid enough to do something like this or at the very least you would think he would be smart enough to keep tight control of the video:
The Navy said Sunday it will investigate “clearly inappropriate” videos broadcast to the crew of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in which a top officer of the ship used gay slurs, mimicked masturbation and opened the shower curtain on women pretending to bathe together.
The star of the videos, made in 2006 and 2007, is a former Top Gun pilot who now commands the same ship, the Norfolk-based USS Enterprise, which was deployed in the Middle East at the time and is weeks from deploying again.
The Virginian-Pilot newspaper reported on the videos in its Saturday editions and posted an edited version of one video on its website.
Capt. Owen Honors appeared in the videos while he was the USS Enterprise’s executive officer — the second in command — and they aired on the ship’s closed-circuit television. Honors took over as the ship’s commander in May. [Korea Herald]
You can read more at the link, but maybe some of you in the Navy can comment whether or not videos like this are something typically done while out on deployment?

I thought this was going to be a drug video: I don't know what 'ludes are but I think they are a kind of drug.
'Lewd' videos would contain sexually suggestive material.
8:30 pm on January 2nd, 2011 2
Who frikin cares? Not like they were broadcasting on PBS. It's people having fun while doing some of the worst duty known to man so that the idiots that find it offensive still have the rights to say so.
At most a 'Don't do it again' would be maximum punishment for this.
I see the Korea Herald is all over this…. I wonder what the 'comedy' videos in the ROK Navy are like?

Being that it was Navy, it must have been a…
…wait for it…
…quay-lude.
2:30 am on January 3rd, 2011 6
What's with the grammar Nazis today? Also I have updated the posting with the video and I can't believe that major media outlets are hyping this.
2:50 am on January 3rd, 2011 7
I think it's stupid that the Navy wastes time going after this guy. I hope he doesn't lose his command. He seems like he would be fun to work for.
3:30 am on January 3rd, 2011 8
What scandal?
I watched the video and all I have seen were some officers and soldiers trying to have some fun. These guys are always under high pressure and need to get some relief.. if not this way than how ????
I know there are better way to get some fun but they are confined in a ship for weeks … people are over reacting here
7:33 am on January 3rd, 2011 9
Not here to see move on… Media hype nothing more.
8:12 am on January 3rd, 2011 10
At least he didn't chain himself to the whitehouse fence. This is simply harmless stuff. You see more on Saturday Night Live or Tosh.O..really, get a life. I agree with Dr. Yu and Maui.

I keep getting filter powned but don't know why.
Seems like a GREAT officer. We could use more people like him in all branches if this video is any indication. If I recall correctly they were in middle of some long cruises.
I'm betting if the media wants to do some real digging:
1. Morale was likely high on board
2. Re-enlistments were higher than normal
3. Lower number of serious incidents (injuries, suicides etc)
It seems the crew loved him as a CPT and XO. I just saw on the news he has been "temporarily" relieveed. So he's screwed and his highers are in CYA mode.
How could the CPT not know what the XO was broadcasting on the shipboard system?
So who was it who was offended? Some people in NYC, San Fran and DC?

Support Captain Owen Honors – USS Enterprise | Facebook
Stacey Moore I wonder who had the ax to grind……it looks like this man has a lot of support from the men and women serving under him. That says a lot. The biggest complaints seem to be coming from the media. Big surprise.
Adam Collette Captain Honors, Thank you for your service to our country! The media can kiss our collective arses!
William Joseph Neal I always looked forward to the XO's videos aboard the Big E, It was just that tiny bit of moral boost that got most of us through the day. I don't regret any of my service time. I am extremely glad I got out when I did. The Navy has started loosing it's back bone at a rapid rate. Captain Honors is going to be one of t…he last respected khakis. Thank you for everything you've done for your country. AM2 (AW) Neal.
Mark Jasek People grow up!!! This is a pubic relation issue for the Navy becausf the politically correct media and politician. This warrior knew his crew and tried to make a deployment more enjoyable. To these people i say get some thick skin and grow up. Obviously there was no IG complaints against him and fellow officers sa…y he is a great officer. So why do you want to relieve him of his command?
John Macon Brewster Navy humor is impossible for an idiot civilian to understand. There is a scene in one of Honors' videos where a young sailor inserts a long rod into the rectum of his battle buddy. Yes folks, brotherhood is an important part of these deployments and this stuff, even genital kissing and licking, has absolutely NOTHING to do with homosexuality. That's why DADT was so important in maintaining discipline and order.

I just watched the video.
*yawn*
Our annual teacher retirement luncheon skits are funnier than this. Really. Our assistant principal is a hoot, and she doesn't have to pull her trousers down to get a laugh. Eddie Murphy these guys ain't.

Just trying to help out a victim of mediocre US public education.
10:17 am on January 3rd, 2011 15
When I saw the story about it on the news this morning, they kept focusing on how "many of the skits had anti-homosexual" slurs and innuendoes in them.
10:33 am on January 3rd, 2011 16
SWOveralls! Hilarious.
11:09 am on January 3rd, 2011 17
If they can him, I can see multiple offers coming from Hollywood to have him set up some sort of military comedy, like we haven't really seen since MASH or McHale's Navy…
11:14 am on January 3rd, 2011 18
In the military, there are some people known to have "virgin ears" and "virgin eyes." Not many, but they can be real killjoys and have others walking on eggshells.
"I don't appreciate that kind of language around me."
"I find that poster inappropriate and offensive."
They are usually very uptight religiously and sexually. They can stifle moral, but their complaints have to be taken seriously, as anyone who had been in long enough would know all too well.
11:42 am on January 3rd, 2011 19
JoeC, they're called Pharisees…
12:06 pm on January 3rd, 2011 20
I get it.
Last year, homosexual jokes were funny in the military. Now they aren't.
Those here who support the end of DADT through politicization of open homosexuality in the military and claim it won't affect readiness, we now have the first (of many) examples of why you are (and will continue to be) wrong.
1:11 pm on January 3rd, 2011 21
Here is another article that follows up on this story. It looks like the gays now have their special victim group status in the military considering that it looks like CPT Honors will be relieved.
2:17 pm on January 3rd, 2011 22
Yea CH, I had alot of fun with jokes while serving.
I still enjoy the newbees in Angeles when i see them get a Trainy's phone number. I wait a while before I clue them in.
I see the Political Correctness is starting already. Thought it would take longer.
2:54 pm on January 3rd, 2011 23
He made gay slurs. Even though it was done YEARS ago- he's done. He should have made fun of Catholics or Mormons or something….
4:05 pm on January 3rd, 2011 24
But technically all the gay slurs were directed at himself. It seems his AWO and SWO persona's were at odds, and you gotta be a badass to be both a navy SWO and AWO. So essentially he was calling himself a faggot.
By the way, kudos to the AV department and the "media mates" "media specialists" (or whatever rate they may be) on CVN-65. Great job!
SWO-veralls!
FTW!
4:05 pm on January 3rd, 2011 25
filter powned again…
4:50 pm on January 3rd, 2011 26
There's videos like this all over the internet from all paygrades and branches of the military, I honestly don't see what the big deal is. Granted, a three-bar commander or a O-6 captain shouldn't be horseplaying around like a seaman apprentice, but it shouldn't be something you should lose your command over and have your career ruined for. Captain Holly Graf physically and violently attacked and beat the sailors under her command and all she got as a so-called punishment was being moved to a different command when she should've been thrown in the brig and fired.
8:15 pm on January 3rd, 2011 27
Yeah, don't know where the filter minefield line is drawn so I don't want to waste my time posting what comes to mind only to have it thrown away. Lose the filter GI. We are all adults here(mostly).
8:31 pm on January 3rd, 2011 28
I've lost more posts than I care to remember (when I forget to "copy" before hitting the submit button). You never know if it is a certain word, length, a link or what. Nothing I submitted today was all that inflammatory.
OK. First off kudos to the seaman in the AV shop on CVN-65. Excellent production values for the media mates (or whatever they call the rate.
Which brings up a point. In the video with his two alter egos (the AWO and SWO) he's really only referring to himself as a fag.
/one again, SWO-veralls absolutely slays me. What a great sense of humor and the crew was lucky to have him. You can't make everyone happy and we should stop trying. The zero defect, zero offensive military is a myth and a dangerous one. If people are so easily offended, perhaps they should find a new line of work. They might discover someone attempting to shot and kill them is even more offensive.
9:05 pm on January 3rd, 2011 29
Without the filter, there would be more spam than posts.
I will make a post some time about beating the filter.
The only mod GI should do is to remove the ability to have a homepage linked to you name. This might discourage some
of the bots from leaving those pointless posts with a link to growabiggercack.com.
The most important two things to remember are…
Don't spell sociialist correctly… as the cack enhancing drug name is buried within.
Don't write any word with cack in it… like cacktail or cackadoodledo.
1:04 am on January 4th, 2011 30
I think Conway East nailed it. I am in total agreement.
1:20 am on January 4th, 2011 31
"Captain Holly Graf physically and violently attacked and beat the sailors under her command and all she got as a so-called punishment was being moved to a different command when she should’ve been thrown in the brig and fired."
I started to say there might be different (unofficial) standards for women… but civilians in support of ending DADT have assured us that multiple standards for special-interest or minority groups can't happen in the military.
So that can't be it.
1:08 pm on January 4th, 2011 32
@27 – Trust me you don't want me to lose the filter because the comments section would be unreadable with the roughly 1,000 spam comments the filter picks up every day. Like Chickenhead said the filter keys on certain words which I have no control of that Akismet finds commonly used by the spammers. Chickenhead rarely gets filtered because of his misspelling of certain words. If your comments ends up in the spam filter just send me a note and I will look for it in the filter among the gay porno and viagra comments.

A good man's military career is gone because he hurt someone's feelings. That about sums it up. Play the PC game and you win. Tell the truth and you lose.
6:05 pm on January 4th, 2011 34
These are just some stupid hijinks. I was stationed at Osan AB during the early 70's with an infamous unit known as "Skivvy Nine". Every flight used to organize last mid runs where we would go from bar to bar singing baudy songs and raising all kind of hell. En masse we would visit other dens of iniquity for varied forms of entertainment. Between two of the establishments we had to cross a PSP bridge known as "p*****g" bridge and again we would do this in formation. We had a favorite song called "Rocky Racoon" that we would request be played in the clubs. This involved an elaborate dance routine which culminated in everyone "dropping trou" to moon each other and the bar. On some night time runs an entire run might stop at some poor participants compound to seranade his "yobo" with raunchy songs. One flight dropped into another's Christmas dinner and sang the same rauchy songs for their listening pleasure. During the Chin Mok Orphanage fund marathon every year we would challange the other base squadrons to pledge more money that us go get our favorite song, "Thunder Road", off the air. I swear we raised so much money that this song was on the air almost solidly for three straight days. And yes, those that weren't working, were imbiding almost the entire time. One year, when streaking was the fad one of our members streaked the stage during a movie at the base theater. We were an all male unit at that time and it was a pre PC culture. None of us were fruit cakes, it was just the thing to do. I know the PC culture, dependents, and feminization of the culture eventually changed all of this in my opinion for the worse. I was never in a unit where the camaraderie and morale were so high. May be having bars filled with good looking, non hustling Korean girls had something do with it too. Capt Owen Honors and his crew deserve a break. Sounds like the Captain did what he could to break the monotony at sea.
8:09 pm on January 4th, 2011 35
Excellent point. The gays make the case that the military accepted females without disruption. Oh, RLY? The feminization of the military has had a destructive effect on every unit from its inception until this day. …and it continues.
8:10 pm on January 4th, 2011 36
Expect to see some submariners and their commanders in big trouble in the near future.
8:59 pm on January 4th, 2011 37
Those were different times. Everyone knows that things our commanders participated in back in the 70's and 80's would cost them their jobs today. Old timers can tell stories about what an O-6 or E-9 were seen doing in the Nipa Hut on the first night TDY into Clark AB.
Thankfully, the ubiquitous digital and cell phone cameras didn't exist back then.
Some pockets of it still goes on even at official functions, at least up to when I retired in the later mid-90's. Considering some of the activities I've heard about at military Dining-Ins and Dining-Outs.
Now, everyone must understand that whatever happens on a TDY or deployment is no longer guaranteed to stay on the TDY or deployment. As a rule, if it's risqué it's risky (to your career).

Exmagworker #34
You provoked some strange moisture to be produced near my visual device. After i stopped laughing it cleared up.
Captain Honors will not get a break, even tho he Should get one.
But at least the Gays are happy.
There will be a backlash against Gays. May take a while to build up.
Like the Liberals in the 111th Congress, they believe they have won ultimate victory. There was a backlash on them. There will be on Gays as well.
7:17 am on January 5th, 2011 39
It's amazing how the people above him can no longer trust his judgment and have canned him. At the time of his promotion to the commander of the Enterprise, he was highly touted. NOW, because of a 4 year old video, he can't be trusted? COWARDS! They are so afraid of public opinion, they hang a good commander out to dry and end his career. We had a spirited discussion at lunch today about this. The non vets at the table thought it was the right thing to do. The vets at the table couldn't get it through to them that the military is not anything like civilian life. The govt. hires people to kill the enemies of the US, or function in support roles of the people who will do the killing if necessary. Things occur there that on the surface may not be as sanitized as some might like. But most of the time it's just people BS'ing around and it doesn't really mean anything. There was only one vet who thought he should have been fired, but he's a social worker. It's astounding that his career is ended, not because he wasn't an outstanding commander, but because of a silly 4 year old video. Once again to all his superiors: COWARDS!!!
9:26 am on January 5th, 2011 40
I'm getting into this story a little late; Honors has already been relieved. But what if GI Korea's suggestion had been adopted, and the captain's superior officer had chewed him out? Would that have gone into his file and damaged his career? He did something stupid as the executive officer, but has apparently been doing good work commanding one of our most important ships.
9:42 am on January 5th, 2011 41
As many here are aware, but to those that aren't, There is not shortage of stupid stuff that military people do. Even officers. Most of the time it amounts to an asss chewing and then it's over.
I totaled out a new (brand spanking new) 2.5 ton truck, back in 1991. MPs resolved me of any fault. KNPs charged me (and others) for destruction of Property, (big black mark of divider).
All would have been fine except for the KNP. So the CO bowed to pressure and gave me a written reprimand. I hung it on the wall-locker—in a frame!!
I have little doubt this Officer was laid on the alter of Political Correctness. Retroactively!
