Knowing what I know about Korean winters and snow (you typically get nice fluffy snow like that at just -5C), he'd have to stay there an awful long time before he'd get frostbite (you can get frostbite starting at -18C). My record? About 1 minute while walking home in -40C temperatures.

While I'm aware you *can* use snow to dry off in an extreme survival situation, I do not see an advantage or reason for what this fellow is doing. Show boating? Propaganda? "Practicing being miserable"? I can detect no actual survival gain here.

…I do not see an advantage or reason for what this fellow is doing. Show boating?…

    More like snow boating!

    #3,

Yes, as I was implying, it's BS.

…Typically, Koreans see snow and automatically think Siberian temperatures. Anyone who's grown up around snow knows that's not necessarily the case. Let me put it this way, if he was standing topless in a blizzard where snowdrift is blowing vertically (and the snow is sleet, not snowflakes), I'd be impressed…but then he'd be dead.

I think the ROK soldier is just showboating, HOOAH!

Reminds me of another picture that was released about 2 years ago, Korean soldiers seemingly toughing it out in cold water…Except you could see the US Divers (wetsuit and other scuba gear maker) on their gloves, which implies they were in fact wearing a wetsuit under their uniforms. Anyone who's been scuba diving in winter will tell ya wetsuits offer sufficient insulation.

Ah, You see this sort of thing in newspapers in every asian country, letting the taxpayers know that their troops are really tough. It's the military counterpart to the "Foreigners Make Kimchi" pictures.

    #11,

    Yes, it most definitely is.

To add to why this doesn't impress me one bit: My uncle once told me how he would parachute onto ice fields in the Arctic during blizzards during the Cold War. The purpose of this was to blow up the ice fields in order to prevent Soviet tanks from crossing over whenever they were seen moving further North in Siberia.

    #13,

Four seasons? The couple of weeks of Spring and Fall we get here barely count as seasons, if you ask me. Hell, I've read somewhere even some Korean meteorologists are arguing we've only got 3 seasons here.

PS. We used to climb on top of my dad's garage on a ladder and do back flips off the roof into the snow.

    #16,

Did you know that Rick James was "Canadian" for about a few years in the 60's (he went AWOL)? He was in a band with Neil Young at one point.

That explains Teadrinker's brain damage condition.
