Korea, the Hub of Weight Reduction Surgery?

Via a reader tip comes this unique way the Korea Tourism Organization is promoting the country:

Two severely obese women in New Zealand are all geared up to be on the life saving trip to South Korea. The two women, Wellington woman Lynda Sim, 45, weighing about 160kg, having Type 2 diabetes and Jasmine Sciascia, 26, from Wanganui, weighing almost 200kg, are reported to have received a free deal from Korea Tourism Organization to receive free surgery.

Wanganui surgeon Clive Solomon, who had operated on both the ladies, has reportedly expressed concern over the prescribed timeframe of the visit. Further, he has warned of possible blood clotting in the major vein during the journey, as the major concern, prior to the surgery in hospital.

Understanding the logical concern of Clive, the two have accepted the offer so as to save their life from the claws of possible death, predicted by doctors.  [Top News NZ]

I don’t know if New Zealand is the best place to promote weight reduction surgery in Korea because the obesity epidemic is not as bad there as in the US.  This would be a great foreign aid project from Korea to the US to downsize our obese people.  ;-)

Congrats to them for getting the free deal…

But does Korea want to become known as the fatties destination? They're barely tolerant of their own people being non-anorexic; even after their surgery (which I sincerely hope goes well) they'll still get stares from locals not used to seeing people bigger than sticks…

Why not? If you can extract green dollars out of them.

We have white people extracting green wons out of Koreans who are despised, why not the other way?

I hate being the only white man in any given area of Seoul, only for some foreign 300+ pounder come heaving by. Koreans see folks like that and almost-rightly pass judgement on all of us.

Excellent point Tom. Everyone who has ever met a Korean KNOWS the only thing Koreans care about is Money.

Good job pointing out where your Race holds value. (money, money, money)

ESL teachers make too much teaching your little children what Korean ESL teachers are unable to teach.

This should bring some of those wons back where they belong. (in those sticky Korean fingers)

Come to Korea, where we *care*—about your money.

Some of us ith a "spare tire" earned our right to look the way we please. Those without a DD-214 marked "Honorable", dog-tags, and/or a job that pays taxes for the parasites that complain about how others look can go suck eggs out of a chicken.

Here's a story about Korea trying to drum up tourism from New Zealand and some of you can't keep it in your pants about ho much you hate Korea, Korean, the USA, and American Prosperity. To the Devil with you.

How about just "live and let live"? Or are you OK with having someone else tell YOU what you can wear, where you can go, what you can eat, etc? Don't be a two-faced, weaselly sod…

TOM#6 This post is not really germane to the subject of weight loss but I wish that all those Koreans getting plastic surgery to look more like white

people would come to the USA and spend their converted won. Our medical

community I am sure would welcome such a large infusion of cash into our

economy. By the way Tom, why is it that so many Koreans choose to look like

    white people?

What airline is bringing them to Korea? Suspect it will be either a Korean Air or Asiana regular passenger flight. Last time I was on a flight with either of those airlines, they didn't have a seat big enough for these two. But I'm sure what's going to happen is that they'll be in the cheap seats in the back (free and first class are not both likely to be true), with some other poor passenger wedged in between them. Won't that be a fun flight?

    She has nice hair.

And the barbed wire tat on her wrist is sexy.

And she would be a valuable member of the team if you ever constructed a trebuchet.

I hope someone googled the quote from my above joke. It is worth the 30 seconds.

Why go all the way to New Zealand for prospects? All they had to do was post some fliers in and around the PX/food court on any base/post here and they would have gotten more than they could handle with no air fare(s) to worry about.

I like Tom's response "- Don’t be silly, why would Koreans would want to look like fat tub of white lards?" Why don't you answer your own question Tom? Why the different noses, double eyelids, bigger breasts? Could it be Koreans in their natural state understand they are inferior? Please do answer if the whites are so bad, why all the surgery? Why all the hormones to be taller if coreans are so perfect? Please do answer…… I know you won't, because the truth would hurt you too much.

Nah, comes down to the fact that many women are insecure about their looks. Blame society if you will, but that's essentially why cosmetic surgeons don't count their money, they weigh it.

And this is the problem with the "PC" world. We're all supposed to turn out heads and pretend she's "normal" and just "being herself". That its "not her fault", that "her parents made her that way" and any other ~insert favorite excuse here~.

Take responsibility for your actions / inaction's and own position in the world. Then do something to improve it.

She has an industrial strong "bidet", you know, that bowl shaped bathroom

fixture the frogs came up with for washing the privates.
