Fortunately it doesn’t look like anything serious:
South Korea’s state nuclear research institute reported a small radiation leak during an experiment on Sunday, which led to a temporary warning but caused no casualties, an official said.
“It was a problem that happened in the middle of an experiment. It did not leak outside the building, nor lead to casualties,” the official at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in Daejeon told Reuters.
He asked not to be named because he was not authorised to speak to media.
Yonhap news agency reported that a radioactive substance rose to the surface of a water tank when researchers were working to make a semiconductor wafter at a nuclear reactor, which set off an alarm.
Three staff were evacuated immediately due to the accident, the news agency said.
The official at the institute in Daejeon, south of Seoul, said the level of warning was the lowest and all staff were again working as normal. [Reuters]

Had this happened on a US military reservation there would have been riots in the streets of Korea, but since it was a home grown issue it will be largely ignored. Reminds me of the uprising in Wonju about a fuel leak contaminating the river, when it turned out to be a factory owned by the town mayors brother.

The nuclear leak incident has somehow lead to Korean racism charges. How surprising.

Tom hates it when facts are used…
Especially when it points out the Pyongyang leanings of the news agencies…

Go ahead keep pulling that race card. I'll continue to laugh at you guys and your soap box drama.

Tom, Don't worry. In advance of next Tuesday: The USA would like to say "You're welcome" for your liberation and right to claim racism even when facts get in the way.

setnaffa, a hypothetical situation that has not happened is not "facts."

That's what The ROK could do with the Somali pirates, make them human radiation detectors. Stick them in nuclear power plants & if their hair falls out, they get radiation burns, they have vomiting & diarrhea, or if they die then the authorities know that they have a problem.

What?! Did the Jasmine Revolution succeed?!
So what day does the US thank South Korean for sending hundreds of thousands of ROK troops to Vietnam? Given that about the same percentage of South Koreans died fighting in Vietnam as the percentage of Americans who died fighting in Korea, I'd say that's a fair question.
One might think that's at least part of the "say thank you" equation.
And if there's a day the US says "you're welcome" for saving South Korea's arse, is there a day that the US says "we're sorry" for slicing the country in half in the first place?
For that matter, is there a day the US says "thank you" to the million or so South Koreans who became fodder for the Chinese and Russians in the Korean War to make it easier for the US-led "free world" to use the threat of military response as a deterrent against future communist aggression and expansion?
Geez, the way some people talk, you'd think that Americans were more than three percent of all the deaths on our side.
Geez, the way some people talk, you'd think they themselves were among the casualties.
I am eternally grateful for what the US military did during the Korean War and beyond. But the sanctimonious "you'd better thank us" remarks from non-veterans are kinda galling sometimes.
No offense.
