ROK Drop Open Thread – April 3, 2011

I have been meaning to do some updating to ROK Drop so I am opening up the comments section this week to everyone to add their thoughts on features they would like to see added to the ROK Drop.  Also for those that haven’t already, you can now follow the ROK Drop on Facebook.  You can either “Like” the Fan Page I set up or follow me on my Profile Page:

It's good to see merit rewarded. "These women showed extreme courage and tenacity," wrote Florida A&M University journalism professor Valerie D. White in one nomination. "They were the epitome of grace and courage and an inspiration for journalists around the world," wrote Cleveland Plain Dealer reporter Janet H. Cho in another. I know Tom will join me in congratulating the McGill medalists.

    Here's Grady College's announcement.

Is it still not okay to put metal in the microwave?

I put metal in the microwave.

I put CDs in the microwave.

I put glass jars over corks with burning toothpicks in the microwave to create plasma balls.

I'll put YOU in my microwave if you want.

BTW… my "microwave" is not an oven. It is a tunable microwave chamber with feedhorn and oscillator that was thrown away by an out of business company.

Of course I can heat food… but… I can also energize things that don't normally get energized…

    Muah ha ha ha.

And X-ray machines require a license in Korea… so I would never have two of them…

Muah ha ha ha ha ha ha!

ChickenHead 3, you can put unlimited quantities of uranium-235 and plutonium-239 in a microwave.

Only in S. Korea can a law be interpreted as such and only Korean females can be prostitutes because the law doesn't say that a male can be(Gigolo not mentioned in Korean law). Again, Korean males get a free pass, LOL…
    http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2011/…
"Under the law, only females can be “jeopdaebu,” a term in Korean referring to those who serve drinks and offer other entertainment to customers at bars or clubs.

This means that even if male hosts are caught providing “sexual services” to their customers, punishing their employers and the hosts could be elusive as there is no law defining the job title of these male hosts.

Experts said as long as the law limits the definition of “jeopdaebu” to women, such male prostitution is legally viewed as an act taken voluntarily on mutual agreement.

If caught, these male hosts claim they are just waiters not jeopdaebu, taking advantage of the legal loophole."

@#4 – Done. I do really need to update the links on my sidebar. A lot of dead blogs out there.

By the way I am surprised no one has brought up any improvements they would like to see to the ROK Drop?

Kushibo has learned that South Korea is permitting "private" food aid for North Korea. He doesn't object to aid for the starving, but he doesn't want it to benefit the military or the elite, "Especially when it appears 'Plan B' (a tough approach to North Korea) finally seems to be undermining the regime."

Read all about it at Monster Island.

    Glans,

"you can put unlimited quantities of uranium-235 and plutonium-239 in a microwave"

…only if your microwave is infinitely large or you work on that project for an infinite amount of time. You also need a supply larger than the universe can offer to be truly "unlimited".

ChickenHead 10, that's a good point. Just squeeze in as much uranium-235 and plutonium-239 as possible.

Actually, the first thing that comes to mind regarding possible improvements would be the sidebar. Every page is 300% longer than the content, if not more, because of the static lists in the sidebar.

Why not clean out the lists, then move them to their own page(s)? Then put a prominent link to that page in their place(s)?

The marmot discusses China's aircraft carrier. He doesn't explain why, if China does something bad with it, South Korea or Japan wouldn't just sink it with missiles. He also links to a comment by Andrei Lankov, who thinks NATO operations in Libya will make North Korea more cautious.

New government in Ivory Coast. Obama congratulates Ouattara (Muslim) and Inhofe defends Gbagbo (Christian).

'President Barack Obama called Alassane Ouattara, the democratically elected president of the west African nation Ivory Coast, on Tuesday to congratulate him on assuming his duties. According to a White House readout, Obama told Ouattara that the United States would be a strong partner as Ouattara "forms an inclusive government, promotes reunification and reconciliation, and responds to the current humanitarian situation."

At about the same time, Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) was on the floor of the Senate backing Laurent Gbagbo, the incumbent president who refused to step down from his office after losing an internationally certified election in November.'

This is really beautiful. I'm sorry there's no Korean or military connection, but Leon LaPorte may enjoy it.
