USFK Soldier Daniel Lloyd Sentenced to 7 Years In Korean Jail

I figured considering the charges that Pvt. Daniel was facing that he would do 5+ years and that is what he got:

A panel of South Korean judges on Friday sentenced an American soldier to seven years in prison for breaking into a home and assaulting an elderly Korean couple in February.U.S. Army Pvt. Lloyd Daniel, 19, of the 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, beat the pair with a piece of lumber and attempted to rape the 63-year-old woman after breaking into the couple’s Camp Casey-area home in Dongducheon on Feb. 26, South Korean police said.

Before handing down the sentence, Uijeongbu District Court Chief Judge Park In-sik told Daniel through a translator that he would be treated the same as any Korean defendant, and not any harsher because he was a foreigner.  [Stars & Stripes]

You can read the rest at the link, but really this sentence is similar to what any Korean would expect to receive in such a circumstance.  He will probably serve about 6 years if he gets enough good behavior time to reduce his sentence.  Good riddance to this dirt bag.

Methinks there is no small chance that when this quiets down they will let him out a tad earlier.

I just hope this guy doesn't learn Korean and then write a book.

I guess seven years is the difference between beating someone with wood and just beating your wood.

This guy appears to be a serial scumbag… the exact type of person really long prison terms were invented for to keep their frequency of repeat offense at a minimum.

For those of you in the area, have his victims recovered? And, being that the seemed much loved in the community, have they been well taken care of… both officially through USFK for allowing this scumbag to walk the streets… and by GI Joe visiting them in the hospital, helping do chores, etc?

Also, did anybody determine if this guy had any kind of waiver in his background? I still believe it is highly probably… being that he was in trouble twice for actions that normal people would never consider… and that behavior didn't just start when he arrived in Korea.

So, the community must wait 5-7 years to get a piece of this kid. It's not over and will never end for him. People will be waiting for him, where ever he goes. If he isn't dealt with inside, he will be dealt with outside. It will not end well for him. His life is forfeit. Good night sweet prince. He's 19 but Mr. Kimmy will likely have many more birthdays than this boy. Shallow grave, bag of lime handles all past transgressions.

Let's hope he can straighten out while in prison and find a way to make the rest of his life productive, in some way.

7 years (4-5max) in a Korean prison, now thats quite the Soju hangover to wake up from. He should have got 10 to 20.

Well, for once I am satisfied with this sentence and how the judge and the USKF has handled this case. I am also surprised that you guys are not trying to defend this creep and start bashing on Koreans, which I was expecting that you guys would based on past happenings. But I am pleasantly surprised that, this didn't happen.

So there is some hope left after all. Hopefully the guy serves the full time (and not part time) and learn his lesson.

It's because this guy was caught red handed. There is zero doubt as to his guilt.

    Tom,

You have us all wrong, this POS could have just as easily pulled this crap on one of our family members or neighbors. Irregardless of the race, sex or creed, a criminaly oriented mind is just that, and he was caught red handed. Besides, if I wanted to bash on Koreans, I can just go start an argument with my wife, which I will then lose 99.1% of the time and have to suffer the consequences. Hello basement couch.

Seven years? Korean presidents and Korean chaebol presidents beat up/kill people, steal millions of dollars from stockholders, etc. and don't do any time at all. Where is the justice in that?

Not much justice, but some of them do serve a little time in jail before they're pardoned.

Pardons, by the way, get thrown at all kinds of offenders, from the most elite to the lowest level.

Depending on how you look at it, it's both an asset and a serious demerit of the Korean judicial system.

He probably couldn't find "Dongducheon" or didn't know the difference. Facebook still spells it "Tongduchon". I don't think he's the sharpest tool in the shed.

Leon LaPorte, the reason I laughed is that Taejŏn/Daejeon is the location of a prison that houses many foreign inmates.

The nonchalance of that routine Facebook info was amusing.

"Currently incarcerated in the ROK"… No, that sounds too negative and stigmatizing for the folks back in Pohnpei to read…

"Lives in Daejeon, South Korea"… That's the ticket!

I also love his ghetto gangsta-wannabe look. The guy's from Micronesia!
