New Site Looks to Help Improve English Writing Skills

For any English teachers out there, Rob Whyte who people may know from his Lonely Planet contributions has started a web site that provides tips to improve ones English writing skills called ESLwriting.org. Here is a little bit about Rob from his About Page:

Hi everyone. I’m Rob Whyte, the brains behind this English writing website.

I hope you find the ideas, lessons and worksheets useful. I really hope these materials help you become a better writer.

Here’s a little bit about me. I live in Busan, South Korea. I’m an English professor at a private university. My main teaching subjects are English conversation and composition. Sometimes, I teach politics to students who want to study in America, Australia or England. They are high level students but they need help with their writing. So, I teach them how to write a thesis statement, structure paragraphs and create proper academic essays.

I’m also a professional writer. I have written about a dozen books and articles. Travel and education are my main writing interests. In the past, I have published books and articles about business, culture, the environment and medicine. My writing has been published by international giants like Lonely Planet, The Independent (UK newspaper) and the American Academy of Pain Management.

His site might help GI Korea improve his own English. This single post, concerning an English-teaching website, contains at least two significant grammatical errors.

I dig the PedoBear approved mustache.

For Cloying Odor (and others), I'd like to confirm the stache has not been approved by PedoBear, nor have I sought its approval.

The stache stands on its own merits.

    Rob,

I am a big critic of freaky foreigners looking and acting strangely… especially when they whine about discrimination for looking and acting strangely.

On the other hand, just like in American universities, a certain amount of managed eccentricity and properly-presented strangeness is tolerated, and even encouraged, if someone's actions and accomplishments rise above the average… and their attitude shows they care about the betterment of themselves and those around them.

For what little it may be worth, The Stache gets the ChickenHead Seal of Approval as a personal and well-groomed trademark signifying the improvement of the teaching profession in Korea… and it clearly differentiates itself from the ragged and unkempt variety of unusual that is much more common among foreign "teachers".

I presume your lessons are as interesting as your appearance… and your students recognize this.

Rob is an intense dude and the moustache just emphasises it. You wanna see the way he walks into a room, its like a lion running into a heard of wildebeest. I'm glad the site is getting more notice! He's one of the nicest foriegners I've met out in Korea.
