I vote Nuclear Power plant. Don’t know which one.
4:07 pm on May 12th, 2011 5
Kinda reminds me of something at Panmunjom.
4:15 pm on May 12th, 2011 6
I have an idea what it is, but I need a clue to narrow it down.
5:59 pm on May 12th, 2011 7
Nobody has gotten it yet, in fact no one is even close yet. It is not an observatory or a nuclear power plant.
9:36 pm on May 12th, 2011 8
Ok. That was not much of a clue there GI, buddy. How about this, is it in North or South Korea?
12:09 am on May 13th, 2011 9
Al Gore’s new house?

Here is the clue that should help someone answer this Korea Finder. This building can be found in Seoul.
5:17 pm on May 13th, 2011 11
Jeoldusan Martyrs’ Shrine. Mapo-Gu, Hapjeong-Dong.
5:27 pm on May 13th, 2011 12
Oh, snap.
If I were still driving up and down the Kangbyŏn Expressway, I might have gotten that.
6:03 pm on May 13th, 2011 13
Of course I never heard of that. Interesting that Koreans other than modern North Koreans were persecuting Christians. To a regime trying to deal with believers in an annoying faith, I don’t have any positive advice, but I would say, “Don’t execute them!”
Here’s a picture from the ground. I guess it does match the satellite image. And here’s the Wikipedia article.
7:14 pm on May 13th, 2011 14
Ah! It’s close to Seoul Union Church! I’ve seen it so many times…

Glans, Korean persecution of Christians is well known.
Persecution of Catholics over the past century or so was a theme in the recent movies Scandal and Painted Fire (치화선), among others. If you go to Kanghwa-do and other historic sites, they have a few shrines.
Go to Western Confucian’s site and he has artwork depicting the many Catholic saints forged from one of the waves of persecution.
Overall, the Catholics got it much worse than the Protestants during the Chosŏn era, but under communist rule up north and briefly in the south, Protestants have also been brutalized.

Damn, damn, damn. I can’t believe I missed it! I’m a big fan of prosecuting Xians. They love it as well. It’s difficult to be an Xian unless you can claim some sort of prosecution. After all, their emblem is a torture device. (I know, I know it was all stolen from the Egyptians and Mythras and such…However) I knew there was a reason I loved Corea. Al those Righteous Xian Martyrs. Delicious! Serve ‘em up stir fried! Yummy!

Cloying Odor got the correct answer. This is the Jeoldusan Martyrs’ Shrine in Seoul. It is an interesting place to stop by and see along with any visit to Yanghwajin Foreigners Cemetery.
8:58 pm on May 13th, 2011 18
I heard they have great classes for those self-martyrs who want lessons nailing themselves (or loved ones) to crosses. The “starter-martyr” kits are to die for!
9:39 pm on May 13th, 2011 19
“It is an interesting place to stop by and wee along with any visit to Yanghwajin Foreigners Cemetery.”
I know you are just another lawless animal GI… but do you really believe weeing on a Christian shrine is the correct way to build USFK’s status in the eyes of our Good Neighbors?

#19 Do I get a vote?
/don’t get me wrong. I’m not picking solely (Seouly) on Xians. I equally despise all 3 Mediterranean Death Cults.
5:18 am on May 14th, 2011 21
Chickenhead, oops correction made.
7:16 am on May 14th, 2011 22
“Chickenhead, oops correction made.”
Well. Thanks for saving me the embarrassment.
I went there planning to follow your advice.
Fortunately, I checked my smartphone and found that you had changed “great place to wee” to “great place to see”… so I just checked it all out.
While I was there, I saw Leon. I showed him your updated post… but he mumbled, “Funk those nappy-headed Jesus freaks,” and weed all over it anyway.
As I was leaving, Leon had his pants around his ankles and was drunkenly yelling about being a “farter martyr” or something like that.
Incredibly bad behavior.

Since there’s no Korea Finder this week, perhaps people here can try this week’s Hawaii Finder.
GI Korea himself might even get it.

Kushibo,
You took the photo on Tantalus Drive… 102 meters southwest from the T intersection with Telephone Road.
You are looking toward Honolulu.
You are roughly 9210 meters from the center of the intersection of the closest two runways at the international airport.
You were wearing hiking shoes and your underwear had a small skid mark that day.

Kushibo I try to comment on your site but I hate the Blogger comment system that wouldn’t let me leave a comment. Anyway the picture looks like it is from the hills near the Manoa Valley.

GI Korea (and Leon LaPorte), can you tell me what the problems are?
I have done some things to make it easier to comment (like putting the comment box right at the bottom of every post), and I thought it allowed for various sign-in formats, but I’ve never used anything other than the Google (Blogger is now owned by Google, so everything revolves around the Google ID).
If I know what the problems are, I might be able to tweak some things, or offer suggestions to Blogger (which is pretty good at making useful changes and upgrades).

Serious question, CH, did the iPhone4 photo I took contain such data? If it did, I may have to rethink doing an on-the-spot instant “Finder” post. Also, how did you access such information?
You are right about the location (it is from near the highest point along the road that goes over Tantalus (a well-known landmark in Honolulu), looking toward Diamond Head and Waikiki), but you’re off on a bit of the details. In addition to having pristine underwear, I was also wearing slippahs (flip-flops). Other than when I run every day, I rarely ever wear shoes in Hawaii, except when hiking or going somewhere formal.
Also, while it would appear from the map that I am near the intersection of Tantalus and Telephone, I’m not sure there really is a Telephone Road down below. I think there’s a trail that inexplicably gets called Telephone Road, but I believe the trail/road and Tantalus do not intersect; Tantalus Road at that point is well above any trail that might be going underneath it.
What’s cool about the Google Maps of that area is that they managed to photograph an airplane flying over the spot (see link above).

Hey Kushibo…
C’mon, man. What do I win?
Not enough info?
A rough calculation puts you at about 460 meters and the center of your camera is on a heading of about 164.148 degrees.
It took about two minutes to line up buildings and calculate this with the use of great software and an unbelievable map… but, still, as the Hawaii Finder leader right now, I expect glory and recognition.

CH, I haven’t decided on a prize. And no, you’re not the Finder leader yet.
If that’s really how you figured it out, I’m impressed (and was hoping someone would do that). I was just trying to make sure I hadn’t inadvertently left data within the photo that would give it away and render the whole exercise moot. (In iPhoto, iPhone pictures automatically have date, time, and location available to see, but I don’t think that’s available in the jpeg format of the same photo.)
Anyway, CH, do be a good sport and put your same answer at the blog.
8:53 pm on May 30th, 2011 31
I really wanted to put my answer at your blog… and I tried… but it wanted me to log in.
I’m not a big fan of logging in.
The few times I have logged into something, I have been flooded with “friend” requests from c-list social networking sites, links to accept my virtual greeting cards or other such nonsense, and invitations to further increase the length and girth of my already-massive peenis.
Much in the same vein, smartphones track you… and this information is available to the government (for a taxpayer-funded price rather than a pesky warrant) and it is available to “partner companies”… and, of course, it is available to friends of government workers and corporate partners, hackers, social engineers, criminals, etc… since nobody really cares about our privacy.
Anyway…
I’ll have to look at the satellite flyby video again. Your shoes are in shadow and I just glanced at them quickly.
As for the skidmark, once again, I only looked quickly. There are other things that could have caused it… but the thermal signature is pretty clear.
