
Defying President Lee Myung-bak, Hwang Woo-yea, the new floor leader of the ruling Grand National Party, is pushing forward a plan to withdraw tax cuts for the wealthy and conglomerates and to reduce college tuitions for families in the bottom 50% income brackets.

Hardly surprising what Hwang is doing. Lee Myungbak was unusually (for a ROK politician) Republican-style conservative in some ways, but even the GNP is typically egalitarian in many aspects.
