Insooni & Former USFK GI Meet In the US

Here is an update on the Insooni story I mentioned last week:

Ronald Lewis, a former soldier stationed in South Korea, reunited with South Korean pop star Insooni Saturday in the U.S., according to The News Journal in Delaware.

The two met nearly 40 years ago and got back in touch a few months ago when the singer – known as “the Tina Turner of South Korea” — sought help from the U.S. military to find Lewis, whom she credits for much of her success.

The two had talked over the phone since then but met in person for the first time in decades Saturday in Delaware, where Lewis now lives.

“I never forgot his eyes,” Insooni said, according to the AP. [Stars & Stripes]

The Chosun Ilbo has video of the reunion here.

I can’t think of any American stars who’d have done this…

I am aware that it is not uncommon for those children of mix relations in South Korea to have hard times. I was stationed in the Western Corridor (89-92) and there was a young male (late teens early 20′s) in the same situation which many of us tried to help as he made his living by delivering water to the local residents on his bike. Sad that he was treated as a “second class citizen” and many times wonder how he did in the years after.

In this case with Insooni I am glad to see she did well for herself and capitalized off the support the soldiers provded and finally was able to touch base with Mr. Lewis again.

4 Get back in touch with someone like this out of the goodness of her heart. American stars are by and large too self-centered, materialistic, and selfish. They might give some money. They might be part of some benefit concert. But, give time and effort for real people?

    # 1,
“I can’t think of any American stars who’d have done this”

What about actress Mila Kunis who accepted the offer from a marine to go to a military ball?

Or, what about Justin Timberlake who might?

If I were Justin, I wouldn’t accept, did you see the size of the guys behind her?

6 I think Kunis accepting the invitation is nice, but I don’t think it deserves the hype it has gotten. If she had done it quietly, better.

But, she didn’t seek out the opportunity – and it isn’t remotely close to what Insooni has done…

What did Insooni do other than reunite with her father?
Is that what American singers wouldn’t do? Reunite with their fathers?

    Just kidding I see now
