Pictures of Heavy Rain Damage In the Camp Casey Area

in: USFK

ROK Head Scott has kindly shared some pictures of the damage done to the Camp Casey area from the recent heavy rains that have struck Korea on the ROK Drop Facebook page.  The damage is no where near as bad as the flood of 1998, but it still has caused some pretty significant damage:

Damage to the TDC Ville outside of Camp Casey.

Picture from the front of Bosan Station in Dongducheon.

Landslide on hill side inside of Camp Casey.

This is a picture of a landslide that has completely blocked the entrance into Camp Hovey.

Fortunately no US servicemembers were hurt due to these heavy rains and subsequent landslides.  Thanks once again to Scott for sharing this photos via Facebook.

From Colonel Ross Davidson, Commander, 1st BCT, 2nd ID.

In the wake of the record setting rainfall that has devastated our post and the community of Dongducheon, I have had the distinct honor and privilege of witnessing a tremendous group of young men and women step forward and tackle a challenge beyond the scope of their Warrior duty. As guests in Korea, and specifically the Dongducheon community, you have faced this natural disaster with the same strength and steadfast attitude that epitomizes the resilience of the American Soldier. The dedication with which our Iron Brigade Soldiers and Families tackled the challenge that befell us, and our friends and Allies in Dongducheon is something to be proud of.

At the end of every speech I make, the last thing I say is “Katchi Kapshida.” Today, the Soldiers of Iron Brigade proved that it’s more than just an easy Korean phrase to remember. It’s our belief in our Mission, a dedication to our Allies, and it’s our commitment to this community.

CSM Huerta and I want to personally thank all Iron Team Soldiers and Families for their hard work and effort in the rapid restoration of combat readiness. You make me proud!

The bottom photo was described as:

This is a picture of a landslide that has completely blocked the entrance into Camp Hovey.

I see the sign for Seung Ji Gol village on the right side of the picture. So describing this location as the “entrance into Camp Hovey” isn’t entirely misleading, but it needs a little clarification. This is a location midway along the road between Camp Hovey and Camp Casey.

Colonel Ross Davidson, Commander, 1st BCT, 2nd ID, I guess that is why A and B 302nd BSB motor pool and 2-9 INF motor pools are still covered in mud. Also why is it that I see more soldiers walking around in civilian clothes causing trouble then I see working trying to rectify the devastation??? Good God Man it will have been a week tomorrow that all of this happened. If this were the states it would have been ALL HANDS ON DECK until the clean up was concluded. NO FREE TIME AND NO TIME OFF!!! This would have taken no less than 48 to 72 hours to clean up the minor areas especially our bread and butter areas…THE MOTOR POOLS!!! Yet you say, “CSM Huerta and I want to personally thank all Iron Team Soldiers and Families for their hard work and effort in the rapid restoration of combat readiness. You make me proud!” WHAT A JOKE!!! I think you need to get off your butt and get into your TMP and go look at what your Iron Brigade Soldiers are really doing. By the way the I saw the off post community, that has no ties to USFK, do more in three days then you guys have in a week. I should know because I have family and friends that volunteered their personal time to get things downtown back to normal.

1HBCT is more concerned about the trappings of readiness rather than readiness itself. Knowledge walls and silly extraneous (and expensive) stuff versus actually useful training.

    Fight tonight my ass.

Now the Iron Brigade Soldiers of 2-9 INF have completely given up and they are sitting on their thumbs watching the USAG-Casey DPW workers clean up the mud in “THEIR” motor pool. There is some more of the tremendous group of young men and women stepping forward and tackling a challenge beyond the scope of their Warrior duty to sit on their a$$ and watch someone else do their job. Is this Colonel even in Korea or is he at Fort Lewis because he is obviously not seeing the same areas I am? Is “Katchi Kapshida” sitting there watching someone else get muddy while your spotless circle jerking??? I think we got another candidate to be relieved for poor leadership!!! And quit rapping Grandmothers!!!

hOORAH to Son of Anarchy for the comments. You know the high brass have to look and talk political for “press and photo” reasons. I used to hate that when we had to do mundane sh*t like spend all day picking up pebbles in our motor pool for “area beautification” instead of fixing the dead lined vehicles that were to be driven to a field exercise in the nest 2 days or for an alert. He’ll probably make 4 star General for sure!
