By This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to people who have seen pictures of Kim Jong-il over the years:
The North Korean regime routinely photoshopped images of leader Kim Jong-il to cover up dark spots on his cheeks.
A South Korean government official said Monday, “Until last year, we believed Kim Jong-il had dark spots removed from his face. But we’ve recently obtained a lot of evidence showing that the regime is photoshopping mugshots.”
The clue was in photos of Kim in the Chinese media. A South Korean security official said, “All photos provided by the Chinese press show images of him with a face full of liver spots on his cheeks, while those released by North Korean media show a smooth skin tone.” [Chosun Ilbo]

Maybe the problem is we’re looking at multiple KJI doubles.
Seriously, while I find it completely plausible (even likely) that the North Korean press is airbrushing out the Dear Leader’s age spots (which is really not so different from just about any magazine except for tabloids), one should also consider that the Chinese press might actually be adding age spots of their own. The picture at left and and at right don’t exactly match if you connect the dots.

Look at the spots, they form the outline of the Korean peninsula. Just like Arafat’s Palestine-shaped keffiyeh made similar headscarves a must for every Palestinian nationalist, Kim’s liver spots are going to make it trendy among North Koreans similar spots tattooed on their faces.
