The Marmot’s Hole has an update on the USFK soldier who was sexually assaulted by a Korean man in Uijongbu back in July:
A court in Uijeongbu has sentenced a 26-year-old man named Ju to three years, six months in prison for a July sexual assault on an 18-year-old female American soldier, reports the Hankyoreh (and others).
In its judgment, the court took into consideration the heinous nature of the crime, the pain inflicted on the victim and the fact that no deal was reached with her. It also took into consideration, however, that he was drunk, that the crime was unplanned, and that he is apologizing for his offense. [Marmot's Hole]
This guy received a much steeper punishment than the cab driver that raped a female private that just arrived in Korea at Incheon airport. The guy was initially sentenced to 10 months in jail and the case was overturned on appeal because the private didn’t resist the rape enough. A similar thing happened with the ROK Army soldier that sexually assaulted a US female soldier where he received no jail time either. Then there was the man that raped a US Army officer in Taegu that was never caught. So at least for now it appears this guy in Uijongbu will at least do some time for the sexual assault.
However, I wonder if the lawyer of the US GI who raped the woman in Dongducheon will try to use this sentencing as a basis to get a lighter sentence for his client? The Dongducheon case though was of a more violent nature so that is why I think he will get about 7 years in line with other past sentences given to GI’s. However, this guy may be looking at a minimum of 10.5 years according to this.

Again with the ‘He was Drunk’ Bull crap. Did someone force him to drink against his will? We should withdraw our forces just because of this.
Can anyone cite a ‘he was drunk’ example of where it was applied to a waeguk resulting in a lesser sentence?

Three years for rape? I guess they get six years for murder.
