On Post USFK Clubs To Have Extended Weekend Hours Due To Curfew

» by in: USFK

This pretty much puts everything back to the way it used to be when USFK last had a curfew:

Bars and restaurants at some U.S. Army bases in South Korea will remain open until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, beginning this weekend, as a result of the 1 a.m. off-base curfew imposed by the military earlier this month.

“With the curfew, soldiers come back before 1 a.m. and want to do something,” said David Roudybush, business operations chief for Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation in Area I. “We’re trying to give them a safe option, a safe location to spend their evening.”

In Area I, the extended hours will affect Mitchell’s Club at Camp Red Cloud, Gateway Club and Warrior’s Club at Camp Casey, and Reggie’s Club at Camp Stanley. Most of those facilities previously closed at 2 a.m., Roudybush said.

At U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys, Tommy D’s will remain open until 2 a.m. on Thursdays and 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with post shuttle hours from the bar being extended until 3:15 a.m. on those nights.

Hours for FMWR establishments in other areas of South Korea will not change, though under longstanding policies, one club at Camp Carroll normally stays open until 3 a.m. and another at Camp Walker has the option to remain open past its normal 1 a.m. closing time based on customer demand.  [Stars & Stripes]

Yeah…so…everyone needs to be in the gate before 1 AM because we need to be ready to ‘fight tonight’ and promote readiness on the Korean peninsula – the ‘official’ reason for the curfew. Drinking all night until the next morning in the ville is bad for readiness, right? But MWR can keep their lame, outdated, corruptly-operated club system afloat by funneling GIs there late at night, given no other (legal) options…hmmmmm… Where are the protests from the command group on ‘readiness’ now? No conspiracy here…these aren’t the droids you’re looking for…move along…move along…

Geez, I remember when curfew was from midnight until either 0400 or 0500. Got caught outside during those hours and you could be shot. But, that was also back in the day when stuff actually happened in Korea, especially up on the Z. Now though, everybody is kicking back down south and enjoying the tour, since it is no longer considered a hardship tour. Never should have taken US troops off the Z, sheer stupidity!

#1 is spot on target. Keep the GI green for MWR.

I remember when the only concern was to be ON BASE at 0500. Weekdays. Camp Humphreys. Weekends, no one cared.

But we were MEN back then, and treated as such. Not the boyscouts of today.

“Ahgeema, soju shot with lime and tell MS lee I want her flat cundigy over here as soon as she finishes up with her other customer. Let me know when the sun starts to come up so I can run two miles back to base and put my PTs on so I can run two more.”

I was ready to “fight tonight” and a few other things. ;-)

So, it’s not ‘safe’ in Korea, that’s why folks need to be in by 1 am?

Go to the Dragon (Bentley’s) late night on the weekends, the club gets pretty rough if you’re the wrong demographics.

Yeah, it’s “safe”. That’s why the MP’s have a vehicle and men outside the “nco” club at Humphreys.

Just WAITING! It’s gonna happen. Too many people in too small a space, with too FEW females to pass around.

Need the MOS 69BJ to become a reality. Now that there’s a curfew and no Steam & Cream on base.

And the number of sexual assaults in the barracks and dorms will dramatically increase just like they did when the curfew was put into place peninsula wide in 2001.

Why would sex assaults, etc. increase because of a curfew? Are todays soldiers that get stationed in Korea more prevalent to conducting sexual assaults? While we did have some problems back in the 70′s, there were plenty of working girls to go around, and dirt cheap to boot ($5 short-time, $10 overnight, AND we had curfew then also. The reason for curfew wasn’t because of fights, etc., it was because of the number of NK inflitrators. There were quite a few women who somehow snuck across and were used by NK intelligence, hence the fairly rigorous (and long) procedure to conduct a full background check on any woman a GI wanted to marry. They caught several NK spies that way.

Why you ask? The last I was there was 2003 and the PI and Russian girles were charging three figures to get them out work that night. Yes. I laughed at them also, and told them of my time when they were an expensive 20 usd for a short time.

The boyscouts can’t afford Hookers. So sad. But — if you’re gay, the asss is free and the CO can’t say chit.

GIJane has the GI’s in a corner and fighting was (is?) common at the “enlisted club”.

There is no reason for GIJane to spend one buck in Korea. Not even the fat ones. “Queen for a year”

“Maybe you’ll pay attention next time you vote…”

    Pay attention to what?

    Vote for whom?

Choice is not freedom when the choices are preselected.
