I’m been feeling nostalgic during my vacation downloading old TV shows from the 70s I used to watch with my grandmother. In looking up info on James Garner of Rockford Files, I found this:

Later, he joined the National Guard serving seven months in the United States. He then went to Korea for 14 months in the United States Army, serving in the 24th Infantry Division in the Korean War. He was wounded twice, first in the face and hand from shrapnel fire from a mortar round, and second on April 23, 1951 in the buttocks from friendly fire from U.S. fighter jets as he dived headfirst into a foxhole. Garner was awarded the Purple Heart in Korea for the first injury. For the second wound, he received a second Purple Heart (eligibility requirement: “As the result of friendly fire while actively engaging the enemy”), although Garner received the medal in 1983, 32 years after his injury. Garner was a self-described “scrounger” for his company in Korea, a role he later played in The Great Escape[16] and The Americanization of Emily.

Anyone remember the movie “Tank” from 1984 with James Garner?

I bet he wishes he was in a Tank during the Korean war.

Surely wouldn’t have got shot in the butt, but maybe hemeroids from sitting all the time.

Few topics succeed in stimulating conversation like Global Warming Alarmism.

…oh, wait… that is Global Climate Change Alarmism… so if there is no actual warming, the Limousine Liberals can still whip the unwashed and pseudo-educated masses into a self-righteous frenzy of willing lifestyle self-sacrifice.

…or is it Global Extreme Weather Alarmism so no matter what the climate does, every weather event (or lack of weather event) can be pointed to as some sort of proof for raised taxes, tighter controls, further sacrifices, increased monitoring, expanded regulations, etc.

I have lost track of the latest spin… but, of course, the same smell of bullshyt lingers.

Anyway… something to keep an eye on…

Someday, it will be undeniable that The World Is Going To End Due To Human-Induced Climate Change ranks up with Militarized Police Are Good For America and Fukushima Is Not A Real Disaster, etc.

A’ Knowledge sharing’ idea that I had in mind, was either Reunification or an Inter-Korean Reconciliation deal within the North Korean Development Assistance Model Framework, based on either that of Germany or Vietnam.

North Korea has half the population of South Korea and a tenth of the per capita income enjoyed by South.

The cost of rebuilding North Korea would be around $330 Billion to more than $3 Trillion Dollars over five years.

This is a high cost to pay as South Korea’s inability to bear the expenses, as well as China’s Opposition to Korea’s Unification and North Korea’s resistance would neither be beneficial to any party.

The idea of working within the TAEAN Working System in the Agricultural Sector, seems a better proposition.

If one could reform the policy to decentralise Agriculture, by opening up the North Korean Economy to the World Economy through increased Exports, and increased attraction by Foreign Direct Investment(FDI), and set up macroeconomic Stability, this would then increase stability and growth, and they would have the ability to diversify funding sources, Chinese Cooperation and a higher level of North Korean cooperation (albeit limited by a lack of a commitment to reform.

I was wondering what oen thinks about htis is this feasible or possible?

I can’t say much about the German model… but the Vietnamese one where America gets their azz kicked and goes home while those in the South are purged doesn’t sound like an ideal framework.

    Is there a Plan B?

How about making the Nork leaders division execs in the various ROK Chaebuls, based on the folks under their control, transition them from lame gangsters to rich, soon to be retired, capitalists. Amnesty for those who agree. No guarantees for those who choose not to participate,

Move the commie leaders out to the “new HQ” in LA or Saigon or Macau or Provence or wherever… Make sure they’re treated like the royalty they think they are.

Spend 5 years creating a path toward democracy and returning the country to a sustainable economy. Perhaps by creating multiple “free trade zones” to train business owners and sending them out as “missionaries” to show the “new Juche” to their home towns. Have prizes for NOT turning in folks who question the government…

Then allow the two Koreas to vote on how to move forward… After all, it’s really their choice…

The Rockford Files was a great tv show. James Garner was also in a tv western but I can’t remember the name of it. I didn’t know that he was a veteran. Thank you sir for your service. In Forest Gump Tom Hanks (who played Forest Gump) pronounced the word buttocks with a long u. That came to mind when I was reading the post.

Here is a good one from the US:

I’m watching season 2 of Gold Rush Alaska – episode 12.

The old guy has been running the mining operation for 23 years, and of the three operations in the show, it is the most professional looking, but a federal inspector shuts them down because the 2 or 3 workers have not have the proper safety training courses…They have probably worked at the mine with the old man for years…

    U.S. Economy’s Medical Report

In September 2008, the US economy was severely wounded. An artery was cut and it was bleeding out profusely. Since then it seems to have stabilized, but it’s still in intensive care in a guarded condition. It’s highly susceptible to complications, such as a stroke or especially an infection, as it must reside in an unsanitary ward with other very infectious patients (the Europeans).

Currently, it’s signs are promising. A relapse is always possible, but by the end of the year, it could be in a recovery room or even in outpatient status. If that is the case, whoever is (elected) the chief resident caregiver at the time will want to take credit for that.

The DPRK has instituted a new award for meritorious service, the Order of Kim Jong Il. It’s described at KCNA:

The order is 67mm in length and 65mm in width. Engraved on it is a portrait of smiling leader Kim Jong Il at the center of golden ear of rice above a shining golden five-point star.

On its upper part is the emblem of the Workers’ Party of Korea and on its lower part the national flag of the DPRK. On its back there are letters reading “Order of Kim Jong Il” and serial number and a pin.

Its miniature medal has a five-point star at the center of golden plate 33mm in width and 10mm in length and a pin in the backside.

The Euro-Atlantic Security Commission has proposed missile-defense cooperation between Russia and the west. Since Russian experts participate in this commission, there’s some hope that this proposal could relieve Russia’s concerns about western plans. This could help us to reverse the trend back toward cold war. Susan Cornwell reports for Reuters.
