Picture of the Day: China’s New Infantry Fighting Vehicle

» by in: China

Here are your pics of the day; they show China’s latest infantry fighting vehicle equipped with new, thicker bolt-on armor up close and in action. These new tracs appear to be part of China’s new class of armored vehicles that recently entered service as an eventual replacement of the older Type 86 and 89 armored vehicles. Click here for older posts showing you the command post, engineering, recon and big gun versions of the trac. #1,

Don’t you know these are meant to intimidate the local population?

Hope they sink lots of money into this modern day equivalent to the cavalry.

    #3,

Don’t rejoice, these will definitely be used to suppress dissent.

I like the big windshield (complete with wiper) on the portside of the IFV.

Would be so easy to kill that … whatever they want to call it.

That windshield, right in front of the driver is so obvious, just takes a .50 cal to mobility kill it. Saves us ammo that way.

Froze my a$$ off many times. Wished I had a windshield at times. Just because “we always did it that way” doesn’t mean it’s smart.

This is ominous for the future.
Note, this is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle, not designed to slug it out tank to tank, this is primarily a “Battlefield Taxi”, just to get troops to the battle, where they can put “boots on the ground”.

This shows China is modernizing it’s Army. Anyone remember Reagan? The force modernization effort?

This is the equivilant of when the US Army went from the M113 APC to the M2 Bradley!!!

Someone has to have experienced this transformation of the US Army to appreciate it.

China is here to stay!!

After 30 seconds of study, I would say the “windshield” module is a drop-in addition to an existing hole… possibly for more visibility when traveling or for less-threatening urban use to keep out dust, cold air, and Molotov cacktails.

The actual hatch cover, with 3 hole for prisms and a handle, appears to be raised behind it… interestingly making the gun impossible to turn in that direction.

Note to self: attack from 10 o’clock

    Any ideas?
