Picture of the Day: Restoring Sungnyemun

Calligrapher Chung Do-joon wields a brush to write in Chinese characters "The Restored Ridge Beam on March 8, 2012," on a beam as he attends an event in Seoul on March 5 to reveal the characters of the beam that will be set up for the ancient gate of Sungnyemun, also called Namdaemun, in a ceremony on the specified date. The ceremony, which is called "sangryeangsik" in traditional Korean construction, is part of work to restore the destroyed gate by the end of this year. Built at the center of Seoul during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), the gate was burnt down by an arsonist in February 2008 and is being restored using traditional architectural methods. (Yonhap)

Has it already been 4 years? I remember thinking back then that it would take such a long time to rebuild.
