Lawmaker Apologizes for Calling North Korean Defectors “Traitors”

Here is an example of what some of these North Korea apologist lawmakers in South Korea think:

North Korean defectors stage a rally in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, yesterday to demand that Lim Soo-kyung resign as a lawmaker. The banners read: “Lim Soo-kyung calls North Korean defectors ‘traitors,’” and “Where is her homeland?” By Oh Jong-taek

Lawmaker Lim Soo-kyung of the opposition Democratic United Party yesterday made a second apology for calling North Korean defectors “traitors” in an alcohol-fueled tirade at a Seoul restaurant Friday night.

Appearing at a party workshop in Yangjae-dong, Lim, who was jailed for three and a half years for making an unapproved trip to North Korea in 1989, said: “The whole controversy was prompted by my lack of virtue and I sincerely apologize to everyone who would have been hurt by my inappropriate remarks. My beliefs and thoughts aren’t like that. I hope North Korean refugees settle down and live a stable life.”

In an altercation in a restaurant in Jongno District, central Seoul, Friday night, Lim called 28-year-old defector Baek Yosep a “traitor” and continued: “How can a son of a bitch like you, a North Korean defector of humble birth, come and challenge a lawmaker of the South Korean parliament?”  [Joong Ang Ilbo]

You can read more at the link, but it seems to me if Lim thinks North Korea is so great and that the defectors shouldn’t have left, than why doesn’t he do us all a favor and stay in North Korea himself?

Lim is a 43 year old female, not a he. This shows you lack research.

And that JoongangIlbo translations of what she said is awkward and way off in tone. She was way more pi$$ed than that. I don’t know where they’re getting the “humble birth” part.

IIRC, she flew there through a third country, then walked back across a Panmunjom. Put the entire 2ID on alert over that, I was assigned there at the time.

Given Ms. Lim is a subject matter expert in treason, we should take her pronouncements on such matters seriously  !

But seriously, Dreamboat, you seem to have little knowledge, but like to pretend that you do. She wasn’t exactly voted in. She’s a proportional representative for the DUP party. Do you know what a proportional representative is?

That’s right – nobody knows who ‘voted’ for these morons since the whole proportional representative vote-over-the-internet thing was rigged, and is being investigated as we speak…

When the 2 Koreas are reunified & if the files of NK intelligence are released & not destroyed I think it will be absolutely amazing how many people in SK actively helped Pyongyang.

Tom, do tell, how does a person “lack research” anyway?

I can see how a person can lack common sense, calcium, penis girth and length etc…

    Please explain

“I lack research, so I must go to the doctor!”

    I absolutely agree.

Thousands of West Germans spied for East Germany. They were exposed when Germany was reunited.

This Lim woman, I don’t understand her.

She likes N Korea – why doesn’t she go live there?
She likes N Korea political system – why in hexx does she participate in the democratic political system of S Korea?
She sent her son to Philippines to learn English (he tragically drowned in a swimming pool) – Isn’t English the language of the imperialistic US?

Another famous anti-US politician, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chung_Dong-young, sends his kids to US school… I don’t get these people.

Her alma mater is now embarrassed by her activities.
    http://koreajoongangdaily.joinsmsn.com/news/article/article.aspx?aid=2954130&cloc=joongangdaily|home|newslist1

Today’s generation of students say they’re simply embarrassed by those alumni and don’t remotely share their views about North Korea.

“We received numerous phone calls, especially from angry parents, asking if we were also pro-North activists,” Lee Hyun-seong, president of the student council, told the Korea JoongAng Daily. “Most of students on the campus are busying making preparations to find a job. We don’t have any interest in the UPP’s primary scandal or pro-North lawmakers. Our top priority is domestic problems on the campus, not social issues.”

The Weekly Chosun reported on May 14 that the campus was still working for the pro-Pyongyang Gyeonggi Dongbu Alliance and that the student council was connected with Lee Seok-gi’s CNP Strategy Group, a marketing and consulting company that is reportedly funding the UPP’s largest faction.

    Lee denied the report.
