ROK Army Officers Reprimanded for Lax Security On the DMZ

The details of the recent North Korean defection scandal continue to make DMZ security look worse and worse:

A North Korean soldier who crossed 4 km of heavily armed border when he defected on Oct. 2 had to go to some trouble to draw attention to himself. Initial reports said that South Korean soldiers were oblivious until he knocked on the door of barracks, but in fact he had already knocked on the door of a guard post, to no avail.

In an emergency audit at the request of the National Assembly’s Defense Committee Thursday, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Jung Seung-jo said the defector “first knocked on the door of a guard post . But when no one answered, he walked up to the inland guard post 30 m away and knocked on the door of barracks there.”  [Chosun Ilbo]

You can read the rest at the link, but officers of the 22nd Division responsible for security on that section of the DMZ have been supposedly reprimanded for lax security.

Exactly, now we know where the Korean National Police recruit their squad car crews from.

    Duty Statement:

    1. Able to play World of Warcraft from 10:15 pm to 4:15 am

    2. Able to sleep in middle of the day

    3. Shift blame to SOFA with the USA

If some inmates can escape North Korean prison camps, I guess some North Korean soldier can cross the DMZ. Juche makes them do it.

The biggest compliment that I have ever recieved in Korea was when I worked at a Korean company. This supervisor praised me by saying, “I never see you sleeping at your desk!”

The biggest compliment that I ever got in Korea (it was not meant as a compliment) was that the head nurse of the orthopedic ward that I worked on at the 121 Evacuation hospital told me that I smelled just like a Korean. I lived in the ville with my yobo (girlfriend) & ate almost Korean food exclusively especially a lot of kimchi. No matter how many showers that you take you can’t get rid of the smell. I personally loved it. I also got a lot of compliments from the local girls on my lovemaking ability but that is another story, lol.

Not that it’s really unusual in this site, but that’s a pretty bigoted thing to say Tom Langley.

    Bigoted but accurate Tom.

A battle buddy told me that after a few hours in a motel with a yobo she said to him, “You Americans always seem so arrogant and now I can see that it’s justified.”

Justified? How so? Justified in that you guys stink of B/O coming from your arm pits? Let’s face it, white guys are a stinky, lapew, oo-eh-ck.

Tom, are you getting that close to men that you can smell their armpits? I would say that out of the modern Countries I visit Korean Women are a close 2nd to the French Women in smell. When you eat copious amounts of garlic the results stink. No doubt about it, Koreans rank high on the stink meter.

Tom, my battle buddy’s arrogance was related to his prowess at bed rugby.

Literally, the elephant in the room.

Actually Tom is a fugitive from justice. As a traitorous Korean citizen, who is dodging his mandatory 21 months of service, an arrest warrant has been issued. He has turned his back on his country and is complicit in the need for foreigners to defend his homeland. He is shirking his patriotic duty in order to enrich himself. Why he continues to comment on military related threads is beyond me as he has no insight to the inner workings of any military force nor the intestinal fortitude and discipline it requires to serve in one.

I think that Korean women definitely have an air about them that is different, but I’ve never thought of them as being smelly, as that implies they have an odor that is unpleasant. It’s different from other women of the world – but I don’t think it’s unpleasant or pleasant – it’s just there.

My 20 won’s worth on the subject.

My GF told me that Korean men who din’t go to the military like to wear military jacket and boots because they feel less than Koreans who did there patriotic duty. Tom just comes to this site trying to get that military feel that he missed. Small.little.pathetic.man. And a damned Canuck.

#17: What is wrong with this person? Do you have a thing with Koreans? You seem to be really bitter about those people. It seem to me that you had some problem with them.

#6 Tom you’re calling out someone for being a bigot? Sort of the pot calling the kettle black wouldn’t you say?

#18 Actually if you scroll back through the thread you will see that “Tom” brings out the best in everyone.

If you ever went to a riot in Seoul guys like Tom would be the ones that the cops in tennis shoes, flex cuffs and motorcycle helmets would be most interested in.

Tom note to self watch out for the KNP Combat Police that wear red hats; they have extra special a** whooping privileges.

Tom doesn’t have anything to fear from the Korean Riot Cops. Canada isn’t in their jurisdiction!

Tom would be arrested even before clearing Customs at Incheon Intt. Airport. Failure to attend mandatory military training is a serious crime in South Korea.

    A. They are both draft dodging chicken hawks who believe in fairy tales.

  • Leon LaPorte

    23. Come to think of it. I’m not sure what you are referring to as a lie.

I made two statements comparing two people, please advise on the false one so I might correct myself:

    1. Mitt Romney is a draft dodger.
    2. Mitt Romney believes in fairy tales (somewhat subjective, I know).
    3. Tom is a draft dodger.
    4. Tom believes in fairy tales (somewhat subjective, I know).

Thanks for your assistance in keeping me honest!
