Picture of the Day: Gangnam Style City Tour at the Dragon Hill Lodge

Here is an image a ROK Drop reader sent me of a poster at the Dragon Hill Lodge promoting a tour of Gangnam using PSY’s image and hit song.  I wonder if Discover Seoul paid any licensing fees to PSY to use his image and song to promote their business?

I can’t believe this clown has the notoriety he is now experiencing. The end of the world is very close indeed!

Would much rather see him bank off this than any one of the billion conveyour-belt K-Poop groups.

SFG – “Would much rather see him bank off this than any one of the billion conveyour-belt K-Poop groups.”

Fair a micro-smidgen. I guess “individuality” has to be some sort of default setting when the act is solo. I still don’t see him deviating very far from the conveyor belt. Maybe a piece fell off and somehow ended up functioning on it’s own?

Yeah I don’t really follow this guy, just seen a couple videos and have heard Koreans talk about him a little. What I have seen though is he seems a bit weird and not really like the typical cloned entertainer so rampant in Korea.

I was sick of Boy/Girl bands back when New Kids were big; I’m exausted of them now, at least in the states if you’re over the age of 15 you’ve come to realize they’re products more than performers but here they’re treated like national treasures. Kinda sickening.

For the most part, I don’t see rap as a true artisan form of music. Real rappers who originate in the U.S. do have individualistic qualities and there is creativity in their work. Most rappers outside of the U.S. are “wanna bees” who suck the pollen out of the original flower and try to produce tasty honey. From what I have seen and heard, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Psy (psychologically deficient) is a clown, pure and simple. I’m not surprised one bit that he’s a treasure in his own country. I am surprised that other peoples throughout the world actually like his work. Unless it’s so comical, they can’t resist laughing their a**es off!

The end times are truly here if this donkey gets the notoriety he is getting. Tupac and B.I.G are digging their way to the Hermit Kingdom to set the record straight!

Oh, really? P-Diddy and Kanye West are considered rappers, and their music is manufactured poop.

Maybe Psy is slowing down now. His view count is only 531,984,265.

The japanese are calling it “f5 Style” because they believe that there was a large campaign to boost views on Youtube by rapidly pressing the f5 refresh button. Supposedly that is also being done by computer programs. There is not way that this has half a BILLION views. The Koreans did the same thing last year, and the year before that, and the year before that. This is how Rain was Time Magazine’s most influential person in the world 2009, 2010, and 2011. What a farce. Seriously…who the h3ll do Koreans think they are? Who do they think they are fooling?,28804,2066367_2066369_2066482,00.html

I don’t know about the numbers but here in the States, it’s still going strong. I wish it would die already, to tell you the truth.

I did like it when JPP did it after he sacked RG3 though.

Has there been a change to ROK Drop’s message board system? The comment box is now on top, and the messages are jumbled in with the other active boards. Wasn’t sure if it was me or a new software package at ROKDrop…

Well, I can’t really argue with this statement other than there are different levels of poop. Some do not smell as bad as others. Some look better than others. P-Ditty and Kanye West are still worthy of fertilizer, where Psy will forever remain part of the dung heap known as K-pop.

That is a good question as to if Psy was paid for the use of his image for promotion.

Loved that place. This brings back memories…when I was there the Macarena was all the rage.

I’ve been listening to PSY since “Champion” in 2002. I always liked PSY. I think the internet is just increasing exposure of Korean pop culture to global audiences and also global culture is going back into Korea, so as global memes mix in a cross-cultural sea, the most effective ones will spread throughout humanity. Memes are familiar enough so that US nationals get a lot of the references, but different enough that people watch the video to enjoy the random WTFness. Anyway, Baek Inje, you seem to know a lot about Japanese peoples’ opinions on Koreans. I suggest you read “Japan Crush”. It’s a website that has netizens opinions after popular articles with the English translation first and then the Japanese translation behind it. I think that, if you learn Japanese and move to Japan, you will be much happier because people will respect you for hating Koreans so much. They will make you a gaijin talent. You just have to learn Japanese. Also, you will not be in Korea anymore, which will be better for everyone.

Psy has hit the big time. Here he is on stage with Madonna. The view count on his own video is now 738,727,172.
