ISAF Commander General John Allen Being Investigated for Inappropriate Relationship as Part of Petraeus Scandal

» by in: US Military

Wow, what is it about Afghanistan commanders and scandals?

Gen. John Allen’s hearing for confirmation as head of the U.S. European Command is on hold pending an investigation into allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with Jill Kelley, one of the women identified in retired Gen. David Petraeus’ affair scandal, a senior defense official said Monday.

The Department of Defense Inspector General’s office is scouring at least 20,000 pages of emails and other documents related to the allegations, the senior defense official told reporters, adding that Allen denies any wrongdoing.

Allen is the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan. Gen. Joseph Dunford, the assistant commandant of the Marine Corps, was nominated last month to succeed him.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta learned Sunday evening that the FBI had discovered the communications, which began in 2010, and referred the investigation to the DOD Inspector General on Monday.

Panetta has told the Senate and House Armed Services committees about the ongoing investigation and asked Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to put Allen’s confirmation meeting on hold, while moving forward quickly with Dunford’s confirmation. Both men were scheduled to appear before Congress on Thursday.  [Stars & Stripes]

Looking at General Allen’s Wikipedia page I could not find any information on whether he is married or not, but regardless she is married which will cause General Allen to face discipline if the allegations are true.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

    Hmmm.

Given that inappropriate communications have led to the suggestion that these women have been given inappropriate amounts of access in return for inappropriate access to themselves, I guess the next double entendre associated with these cases will be “loose lips.”

Can we save some money, stop war mongering, e-mailing chicks thousands of pages, and bring the troops home since the “training” they get doesn’t really do much for them anyway? Maybe he thought it was this Jill Kelly…

That’s not all folks, What a crock of crap this is…
William Ward, Four Star General, Demoted For Lavish Spending, Ordered To Repay $82,000
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/13/william-ward_n_2122379.html
“In a statement issued Tuesday, a spokesman for Ward said the general “has never been motivated by personal gain and fulfilled each and every mission assigned to him and served his country and the men and women assigned to his commands with distinction.”

The spokesman, Chris Garrett, added that, “While General Ward is not perfect he has always been guided by his faith in God and the belief that there is no greater honor as a patriot than to lead those who choose to serve our nation in the armed forces.”

Retiring as a three-star will cost Ward about $30,000 a year in retirement pay – giving him close to $208,802 a year rather than the $236,650 he would get as a four-star.”

This goes to show America is spending too much on the military jobs program.

hm the comment I was bwahahaing at went away…seems inappropriate now. Not that leon’s post isn’t funny too, just not quite cackle-worthy.

Probably removed because it was inappropriate.

If these rampant series of infractions were happening among the junior ranks, wouldn’t we be having a stand down or heaven forbid the undisciplined group being placed on curfew or restriction.

@9 – You are absolutely right. #6′s link about General Ward is another example of the double standard that exists with senior officers and lower enlisted. If a lower enlisted stole that amount of money they would likely be facing jail time and a discharge.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any weirder now Jill Kelley’s twin sister got Petraeus and General Allen involved in a court children custody dispute. Even John Kerry’s name has now become part of this scandal:

Oakseed I saw the double comment you left. I am not sure why that would happen? Also did you mean to comment on that thread? By the way interesting link you left about Jill Kelley, she seems like a shady character to have as a social ambassador which is a position I have never heard of before.
