Picture of the Day: Free Pancakes for Good Shots

A soldier picks up a fish-shaped pancake filled with bean jam, known as “bungeoppang” and well consumed as a popular Korean snack of the winter season, during a drill at a shooting range of an Army unit in Inje, 165 kilometers northeast of Seoul, on Nov. 30, 2012. The unit is offering the snack to soldiers as part of efforts to enhance their motivation to sharpen their shooting skills. (Yonhap)

A fish shaped pancake?? I’ve never heard 붕어빵 described as being a pancake – in Korean or in English.

I do like them though – usually it’s three for 1,000 won.

Preliminary training, instructor “scrutiny”, coffee and cigarettes, and more ammunition are also positive variables that improve marksmanship scores. Oh, and push-ups while you’re waiting too…

And nice vests. You’d have to be dumber than the dumbest soldier to shoot your own during a range cease-fire even after staying up all night…

I dig how the photo was tagged with “Pancakes” like there’s going to be a series of pancake themed articles. :)

    It’s a pastry, not a pancake.

    Couldn’t a pancacke be a pastry?

    Apparantly not:

Koreans call ‘em pancakes… So pancake is okay with me…

    #6,

No, actually they call ‘em “bread”. They call all pastries “bread”.

    @#3,
I hope so, this blog could use some pancakes. ;-)
