President Obama Snubs PSY During Remarks at Christmas In Washington Concert, But Shake Hands Afterwards

I think that President Obama handled this issue pretty well.  It would have looked pretty petty if he was demanding that concert organizers get rid of PSY for him to attend and it would have been unfair to the other performers if he did not show up because of PSY.  So instead the President left PSY’s name out of those he wanted to recognize after the concert:

President Obama thanked several performers by name after Sunday night’s “Christmas in Washington” concert — with one notable exception.

The president gave shout-outs to Conan O’Brien (“the tallest elf I’ve ever seen”), singer Diana Ross, gift-giver Santa Claus, and “all the other talented folks on this stage” — but no specific mention of the suddenly controversial Korean rapper Psy.

No surprise there. Psy, whose song-and-dance hit “Gangnam Style” has become the most-watched You Tube video of all time, performed in Washington just days after apologizing for anti-American statements he made during Iraq war protests in 2002 and 2004.  [USA Today]

You can read President Obama’s full remarks at the link, but he did shake PSY’s hand at the end of the concert since he was lined up with all the other performers to greet the President.  No word on what PSY told the President.

I don’t see how he snubbed him? So what, he didn’t give the guy a specific call-out. Big deal? Psy has had one big hit which pales in comparison with the amount of fame shared by Diana Ross and Conan O’Brien.

Good on you President Obama. Definitely makes a clear statement by witholding Psy’s name but doesn’t turn it into a grudge by giving him the cold shoulder afterwards.

Me thinks now Americans will make sure he will remain just a one hit wonder. It’s just going to take a bit of time, that’s all.

Controversy or no contreversy, he will still be a one hit wonder.

Actually, I think the fallout may be for the next “artists[?]” the music production mills had in the works to ride the Psy coattails. We know that a lot of copycats are rush produced to bank off of fads.

I hope they do Tom, considering you’re so hard on people who are even mildly critical of Korea and how Psy said Americans should die, it’ll look him.

Now you and other Koreans will have an excuse his lack of future hits, it’s always someone else’s fault, never a Korean’s remember

    #1,

Obama also snubbed Earl, Charlene, and Nicole at the coat check counter. He hates people who work minimum wage, y’all. ;-)

    #3,

Don’t feel sorry for him if he turns out to be a one-hit-wonder. He’s banked more money on this video than most people will ever see.

Someone in another thread suggested that Psy do a song and dance number, ala “Big Gay Al”, to silence his critics. It sure looks like Psy borrowed one of “Big Gay Al’s” outfits, or is some apologist going to swear that Psy’s wearing a “traditional Korean Christmas suit.”

KT finally came out with a very short article/link yesterday Dec. 10th about Psy’s mishap titled ‘Psy’s Anti-American Rant Returns to Haunt Him’

Below it says how the US media had to “dig up” the story and then mentioned the Christmas concert like it hasn’t happened yet.

    Intro:
“Psy has apologized after U.S. media dug up footage from performances in 2002 and 2004 where the rapper expressed forceful opposition to the U.S. military.”

Body: Psy’s publicist’s written apology minus the racist part.

    Conclusion:
“In spite of the controversy, Psy plans to perform at the finale of a Christmas concert in Washington on Sunday attended by U.S. President Barack Obama”

Here is an Obama quote from the Christmas concert that the Joongang daily included -

“He(Obama) also said the holiday season was a time to remember that everyone is “incredibly blessed in so many ways,” and to share with the less fortunate, such as those in hospitals, shelters and battlefields far from home.”

I wonder if Psy feels like “sharing with the less fortunate on battlefields far from home” or if he would like to kill the American battlers on battlefields and their families? We really don’t know since Psy hasn’t personally apologized.

Obama’s daughter should’ve slapped Psy upside the head.

Koreabang has a link to the recorded concert(Is it Psy singing with Metallica Wannabees?) at the 2:45 mark is where he spouts his racist remarks and incites violence toward innocent Americans –

I know what Obama said to Psy ….he told him he was looking for another female candidate for the Secretary of State position and asked him if he was interested.

This is the best possible outcome for Tom!

If Psy fails to come up with another hit, it must be because Obama and Americans threatened the Korean music industry.
If Psy somehow pulls another hit out of his ass, then Tom basks in the shared glory all the way over to Toronto!

So, any bets on how Tom will screw this up? Everyone was upset with the MPs at Osan, then Tom chimed in with a tale of hiding under his bed while drunken G.I.s shot up his ville almost every night. It was such a stupid comment, everyone just wandered off to avoid being seen in a thread with that level of BS.

Then Tom said the girls of Gangman weren’t all that hot, again subjecting him to ridicule for lack of knowledge of things Korean.

So Tom? Gonna go for the trifecta? Or was your stance that North Korean State Sponsored Piracy was acceptable your Third?

I think so many people here are overreacting. Does anyone here think Psy ACTUALLY WANTS TO KILL AMERICAN FAMILIES? Are you kidding me? The song was obviously in response to the Iraq war and the travesties committed by certain US soldiers and their superiors. I really doubt Psy hates Americans. Few people actually hate America (the people), most just hate the American government, and that isn’t something that needs an apology.

ZE, PSY has encouraged, emboldened, and facilitated mentally unstable people. It is debatable whether some of the attacks on GIs can be directly linked to his music; but it is possible…

His motive was profit; but his song might have worked up crowds or loners and resulted in innocent folks beaten or killed. He should repudiate it in Korean before he expects honorable people to believe he didn’t mean it. And he won’t because he did.
