Crime, Ospreys add to Okinawan anger over U.S. bases

“Everywhere, everyone who has a daughter is feeling this way,” said Tomoharu Nakasone, a father of four daughters, choking back tears.
Nakasone, who runs an FM radio station, grew up with the bases and thought he was used to the idea, even forgiving a fatal 2009 hit-and-run by a serviceman as a mistake. But he was outraged by the latest rape — in a parking lot in October — and petrified by a bizarre incident weeks later in which a 13-year-old boy was beaten in his own home while watching TV, allegedly by a U.S. airman.
“Entering someone’s home is simply not normal. It is the lowest of human behavior,” he said.

Uninteresting. Besides, Canadian English is fairly close to Northeast American English. I’m mistaken for an American pretty often by foreigners (who aren’t Canadian) because of my accents.

It’s 10:20 AM in a small town when all of a sudden the PA system comes on and says “active shooter in building” gun shots can heard, 911 is notified and have units on their way. 3 SRT members are advancing towards the science lab where the shooter was last seen. At 10:22 AM the SRT team member spots the shooter firing randomly at fleeing students the member take aim and fire.
The shooter is now down, The shooter is checked for a pulse it’s believed he’s dead. 3 other students have been shot 1 SRT member begins to provide first aid. One SRT member is set to search for more injuries as another begins to search the school for the potential of any other shooters.
At 10:24 the local PD arrives, radios the SRT team for an update they advise of the current situation PD enters the building and performs their duty as they normally would. Shortly there after the SRT team is relieved of their duty s that the local PD may take over.
What you just read was a SRT team (Shooter Response Team) responding to active shooter within a school and neutralizing the target within a matter of minutes. Due to their quick reaction only 3 students where injured. Had the individual been given the chance to advance further he’d could have inflicted many more injuries.
The SRT team will be composed of volunteer teachers and staff who wish to be armed and already maintain a CCW permit. However their training will take them one step further and they will be actively trained in how to handle an active shooter. They will also be permitted to be armed at all times within the school.
The local PD will provide them with the following:
1. A bullet proof vest, clearly marked as (SRT) this is to help police identify them.
2. Mace
3. Police radio
4. Handcuffs
They will be responsible for arming themselves, they have to purchase their own pistol however said pistol has to be approved by the local sheriff as appropriate and effective. In addition they may opt to carry a small knife as well. All ammo/weapons will HAVE to be on their persons at all times.
To become a SRT member you will be required to complete a active shooter training program designed by trained professionals the course will also include advance first aid.
You will have to complete a mental health evaluation by a certified professional every 6 months. Also any major life changes such as family death, divorce, financial hardship etc will result in another mental health evaluation and possibly suspension from SRT Program until individual has overcome their personal troubles.
Every 3 months you will have to spend one Saturday doing active shooter training in your school supervised by a trained professional.
Once a month you will have to report to the local police firing range to qualify with your weapon.
The idea behind the SRT team is to be provided an inexpensive yet effective method of deterring school shootings/responding to active shooters. It is designed to be decentralized so that their may be no point of single failure.
Example one LEO is a school can be targeted and naturalized quickly. However if 3 teachers throughout the school are armed and trained they are not so easily neutralized. In addition if they conceal their extra duty from the other students would make it difficult to target them.
Look we could ban all guns tomorrow and make it a crime tomorrow. However with over 100 million guns in America that simply isn’t a solution. The only way to prevent incidents like Newtown is to arm and train individuals.

Hmmmm. The shooter in this case and the ones in Colorado and Arizona came in with body armor and assault weapons with heavy ammo loads. They seemed to expect a fire fight. How effective yet inexpensive is this SRT supposed to be again in their spare time when they are not performing their full time duties as teachers?
If your kids are in schools where you think they are at risk, why wouldn’t you want to put out and hire professional security guards?

Kushibo his suggestion was reasonable and substantially better than the current program of sending victims to gun free zones to die without any chance of self defense.
Professional law enforcement will quickly be able to determine if anyone identifying themself as SRT is an imposter and the standard procedure will likely be to disarm and detain everyone who is not known to be on their team.
Your anti-gun ideology and lack of law enforcement training have caused you to be against a pretty reasonable suggestion in a situation that has few practical options.
Your ideology over common sense has caused you not to consider that in EVERY situation, law enforcement uniforms, equipment, and vehicles can be purchased or duplicated.
Contrary to media hype, most of these spree killers do “plan” their crime but it mostly consists of just getting some guns and ammo, the recent shootings in Norway being the exception.

US Army Seeks Death Penalty Against Sgt. Robert Bales
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=167630738
he U.S. Army said Wednesday it will seek the death penalty against the soldier accused of killing 16 Afghan villagers in a predawn rampage in March, a decision his lawyer called “totally irresponsible.”
The announcement followed a pretrial hearing last month for Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, 39, who faces premeditated murder and other charges in the attack on two villages in southern Afghanistan.
The slayings drew such angry protests that the U.S. temporarily halted combat operations in Afghanistan, and it was three weeks before American investigators could reach the crime scenes.

“Culpo wore a tight navy blue mini-dress with a sequined bodice as she walked on stage for the competition’s opening number. Later in the night, she strutted in a purple and blue bikini, and donned a wintery red velvet gown with a plunging neckline.
The Miss Universe pageant was back in Las Vegas this year after being held in Sao Paulo in 2011. It aired live on NBC and was streamed to more than 100 countries.
The pageant started as a local revue in Long Beach, Calif., organized by Catalina Swimwear. It is not affiliated with the Miss America pageant and unlike that contest, does not include a talent section.
Contestants in the pageant cannot have been married or have children. They must be younger than 27 and older than 18 by Feb. 1 of the competition year.
As Miss Universe, Culpo will receive an undisclosed salary, a wardrobe fit for a queen, a limitless supply of beauty products, and a luxury apartment in New York City.”

Possible Defense Nominee Faulted for Record on Israel, Iran
http://www.haaretz.com/blogs/west-of-eden/the-case-against-chuck-hagel-legitimate-concerns-character-assassination-and-selective-outrage.premium-1.486374
Supporters of Israel have some legitimate reasons to be concerned about Chuck Hagel’s reported candidacy to be the next U.S. secretary of defense. Israelis are convinced that in the final resort, Iran will have to be coerced into relinquishing its nuclear program, that military force will probably be needed, and that it should be American military force and not Israeli, if possible. Hagel, I think we can all agree, is not an ideal ally in promoting such a policy.
Some of the other positions that he’s taken over the years are also disconcerting. Most Israelis, for example, might be worried about his support for a dialogue with Hamas, or his reported opposition to the labeling of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Hagel has his own reasoning for these positions, some of which he no longer holds, but it is understandable why American supporters of Israel, or at least of the current Israeli government, might prefer a secretary of defense with whom Jerusalem might find more common ground.
The most frivolous of the accusations against Hagel, from a strictly Israeli point of view, is his statement to Aaron David Miller that “the Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people” in Washington. First, because the term “Jewish lobby” in Hebrew is in common use and is a widely accepted Israeli synonym for AIPAC. Second, because Israelis take pride and comfort in the legendary prowess and influence of the lobby that supports them.
