Eric Schmidt
I wonder what the propaganda angle the Kim regime is trying to squeeze out of this trip is?
Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt is reportedly preparing to travel to North Korea on a “private, humanitarian mission” led by former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, nine weeks after a Korean-American tour group operator was held by the regime.
Schmidt will be traveling to the North with Richardson as early as this month, sources familiar with the group’s plans told the Associated Press yesterday on the condition of anonymity.
It wasn’t disclosed why a top leader of the world’s tech giant is visiting the reclusive communist country and whom he will meet there. [Joong Ang lbo]
You can read the rest at the link, but I think it is likely that the North Koreans requested Schmidt to come on this trip with Richardson. So there is something they want from the Google CEO in order to release the detained American. Anyone got any guesses on what it could be?

I’d have to concur with the asshole label. The guy speaks French.
Richardson sponsored bills, including the American Indian Religious Freedom Act Amendments, the Indian Dams Safety Act, the Tribal Self-Governance Act, and the Jicarilla Apache Tribe Water Rights Settlement Act. Pure assholishness!
He was former Secretary of Energy and had some issues with the Chinese spy. From February 2001 to June 2002, he served on the board of directors of Peregrine Systems, Inc. He also served on the corporate boards of several energy companies, including Valero Energy Corporation and Diamond Offshore Drilling. – SHOCKING!
In 2003, Richardson backed and signed legislation creating a permit system for New Mexicans to carry concealed handguns. He applied for and received a concealed weapons permit, though by his own admission he seldom carries a gun. – I’m getting dizzy
After his return from North Korea in 2010, Richardson dealt with the issue of a pardon for William H. Bonney, aka Billy the Kid, for killing Sheriff William J. Brady of Lincoln County, New Mexico some 130 years ago. Following up on the promise of a pardon at the time by then-territorial governor Lew Wallace, Richardson said he could not pardon Bonney posthumously because he did not want to second-guess his predecessor’s decision. “It was a very close call,” Richardson said. “The romanticism appealed to me to issue a pardon, but the facts and the evidence did not support it.” – WHHHHHHHYYYYY?
Could this be it?: During the 2012 trial United States of America v. Carollo, Goldberg and Grimm, the former CPR employee Doug Goldberg described how he was involved in giving Bill Richardson campaign contributions amounting to $100,000 in exchange for his company CPR being hired to handle a $400 million swap deal for the New Mexico state government. During his testimony, Doug Goldberg stated that he had been given an envelope containing a check for $25,000 payable to Moving America Forward, Bill Richardson’s political action committee, by his boss Stewart Wolmark and told to deliver it to Bill Richardson at a fund raiser. When Goldberg handed the envelope to Richardson, he allegedly told Goldberg to “Tell the big guy [Steward Wolmark] I’m going to hire you guys”. Goldberg went on to testify that CPR was hired but that he later learned that another firm was hired by Richardson to perform the actual work required and that Steward Wolmark had given Richardson a further $75,000 in contributions. – Crooked politicians in MY gubmit? How is this so?
Richardson has a long interest in North Korea. – There’s gold in them there hills? What happens in Pyongyang, stays is Pyongyang?
Perhaps the biggest issue is he’s 3/4 wet back or worse, 1/4 white?
I’d have to say it’s the whole French thing which raises the flags with me and really get’s my dander up. Or, you could just check his freaking record!

Since Leon mentioned Lew Wallace, I’d like to add that Wallace was a US general during the Civil War. He had some good days and some bad days. He helped the Mexicans expel the French from their country. He’s the author of Ben-Hur, a Tale of the Christ. Read allow about him at Wikipedia.
