This really shouldn’t be too surprising that Park Geun-hye would have arguable Korea’s most well known celebrity internationally to perform at her inauguration:
Popular rapper Psy, who recently apologized for advocating the killing of U.S. troops in 2004, will perform at South Korea’s presidential inauguration next month, according to the committee handling the event.
Psy, whose full name is Park Jae-sang, will be among several performers at the Feb. 25 inauguration of Park Geun-hye at the National Assembly. The event is expected to be attended by 60,000 people, according to the inauguration committee. ………………..
Park Sunkyoo, spokesman for the president-elect, said this week that he was unaware of Psy’s anti-U.S. military statements so it was “inappropriate” to comment about whether the rapper should perform at the inauguration, given the large U.S. military contingent — 28,500 servicemembers — stationed in South Korea as a deterrent to North Korea.
Multiple other officials, including a second spokesperson for the president-elect, members of Park’s transition team and the head of the inauguration committee, did not return repeated phone calls seeking comment. [Stars & Stripes]
You can read the rest at the link, but I don’t buy that the transition team did not know about PSY’s past anti-US statements.
