Army Chief Warns That Sequestration Will Mean Nearly 200,000 Soldier Cut To the Army

» by in: US Military

It looks like the Pentagon is going to be taking the bulk of the sequestration cuts out on the troops and minimize cuts to acquisition programs judging by this article:

The Army would lose more than 100,000 soldiers if Congress does not avert automatic defense budget cuts due to occur in two weeks, the Army’s chief of staff said Friday.

“This is already on top of an 88,000 cut we’re taking right now,” said Gen. Ray Odierno at the Brookings Institution on Friday. “My guess in the end, it’ll be over 200,000 soldiers that we will have to take out of the active component, the National Guard, and the U.S. Army Reserve.”

Cuts of $500 billion over the next decade will hit the Defense Department on March 1, in addition to the $487 billion of defense cuts mandated by the 2011 Budget Control Act. Further cuts will occur if Congress extends a continuing resolution holding funding at 2012 levels, instead of passes a 2013 defense spending bill on March 27.

A large majority of the additional cuts would be done through attrition, but some will be asked to retire early or leave, including officers and senior non-commission officers, he said. [Washington Times]

It will be interesting to see what impact all these troop cuts are going to have on USFK especially when leaders there have been trying to get more troops and equipment on the peninsula.

Perhaps a better solution will be to send some of the 50 million illegals home, cut their food stamps, housing, electrical, telephone, utilities support, their health care, required dual language programs, welfare, social services and clinics, etc. and save for American’s and those who legally are processing to go to America, such as I had to do for my wife and as her families are and have done to become proud Citizens in America and work to be part of the solution, not the problem.

That’s just insanity right there. Cutting 200,000 troops isn’t going do any one any good.

    Larry and Bob–
GOOD COMMENTS. However, the objective in a dictatorship, Bob, is not to do any good for anyone except the top man and his enablers (TM&E). Hadn’t you noticed?
In 2010 election when US was reasonably free the voters addressed the spending fiasco. In order to pervert their decisions (and, to gain time to illegally walk Obamacare into law)TM (NOT CONGRESS) devised and then established the Simpson-Bowles Commission to propose mid-and long-term economic/fiscal solutions. That commission did their thing, Apr 27-Dec 1, 2010.
TM did not accept any of the recommendations, etc., of HIS OWN “bipartisan” commission. INSTEAD HE devised Defense bankrupting sequestration and then has spent the time since blaming the Republicans for it ever since.
Now the thing that gags a service man trying to follow his own oath of service/office, is listening to the whining TM enablers whining to the Congress about the devastation that their maximum leader in chief devised and is obstructing into effect (“There was an election; I won, you lost.”).
TM proposed then imposed sequestration into effect in 2011. At that time the whining Chairman of the JCS was the Army Chief of Staff then advanced to Chairman, JCS, assumedly. During 2011, the whining Army CS was providing “senior advice” (I.E., “ENABLING”) to the TM, through the JCS (as were all the other service chiefs assumedly doing).
Panetta, belatedly whining (missed his flight to Carmel, California again) was of course enabler #1 all the time.
If the whiners did not advise the TM over the past 18 months, give or take, as they are now doing the Congress, then they were all collectively and individually derelict in their duties, and violated the honor of their professions and their oaths of office.
On the other hand, if they did so advise the TM and he rejected their strong advice, they should have turned in their badges at that time. If they instead clicked their heels and saluted their TM, and moved on out (a real charge of the light brigade!) they are disgraces to the profession of arms.
Whatever; their belated whining performance before the Congress is obnoxious and too little, too late, to the wrong branch of government. Let their boss fix it—it is his idea and GIFT TO THE ENEMIES OF THE USA AND WHAT IT USED TO STAND FOR.

The Democrats proposed and passed the sequestration. 0bama signed it. Now suddenly it’s the GOP’s fault?

How deep can some folks swallow 0bama’s Johnson?

If I ran my company like the Democrats are running the country, I’d be arrested and sent to prison. They have too many friends in the press.

BTW, Armed Bears in the air at Guam?

Have a midnight alert and give a proper weigh-in and tape test from a trusted third party teams to come on over to conduct the tests and follow up each month. That in a few months with the proper follow up and documentation would identify very close to the needed number, especially in Field Artillery at Ft Sill or any unit anywhere for that matter.

Why cant this nation wake up, China is the one pulling all strings and laughing at us. Who is it we fought in Korea, since Day One and Vietnam, in the Middle East, etc. supplying support, and in So. America, Uraquay, Paraquay, Venzuala, Brazil and now control the Panama! And the ones now threatening war with the Philippines, demanding island after iland, the Shatly, Saba, and now a central island where oil was discovered, give it or war, they are flying attack jets of the Philippines now, building military outposts on all the Shatly Islands they have taken, announced war plans with Japan, korea, Philippines, even Polynesia. And we still invite them to take over land, factories, business and banks in America!

Larry, it’s because our people worship money or themselves and God is true to his Word (see Romans 1:18-32). We’re getting exactly what we said we wanted…

You boys are all kinds of funny. Don’t you be worrying bout them Chinese. I remember back when we was worried sick about them communists. Then the Arabs were buying everything and next came them Japanese. Then it was terrorists and Chinese. Them Chinese are buying up everything but like them Arabs and Japanese they will be selling it back at firesale prices when their own problems start up. That China has itself some serious problems. You just got to pick up a newspaper and keep your thinking cap on to recognize it.

The only difference this time is that globalization. It done globalised the labor market so the only thing left in America for the unskilled is them service jobs that don’t pay a hill of beans. It’s better to go on welfare and let them aliens do them jobs. We will beat China when those companies wise up that they is just training their Chinese competitors and they start bringing middle class manufacturing jobs back to America. China will be selling all that stuff in a hurry and the middle class will be a buying.

Cutting them soldiers ain’t a bad thing as long as they is wise which ones to cut. That’s a long shot. I know them boots on the ground is real important but it ain’t done us a lick of good. That Iraq and Afghanistan is going to be right back where they started the moment we leave if they weren’t already. Probably be worse. If we ain’t going to success at none of that nation building maybe we just got to keep them down. Boots on the ground ain’t nearly as good as them drones for that. Green to blue. More drones a raining death from the sky and less of them boys wondering around getting blown up with them IEDs.

    7. Finally, another true believer. The biggest problem our country faces is all of us not praying enough (especially in government buildings, God loves prayers from government buildings more).

Sure, lots of Americans pray but they are only lukewarm, legalistic Christians. Either following the path of least resistance (to fit in, social reasons) or those who never had a choice and are Christian because of an accident of geography and those who were indoctrinated from a very early age before they could consent. None of their prayers count. Only those who truly, and by free will, follow the complete Word of God (not picking and choosing, ala carte) can save America. Good to have you here.

Tell us more about your plans and how we can help.

If there were such naivity and ignorance upon the Chinese would be nice, BUT, CHINA is deliberate, planning and calculating, deliberate and methodical. They take advantage of America’s love of money, as Japan noted following the Japo-Russio war, America will sell it’s soul today and worry of Hell tomorrow. Exactly what gave the encouragement to Japan prior to WWII. BUT China is not so naive today and America is no longer the Home of the Free and the Brave, we are cowards and traitors as a whole. The sale out to the one world order, Globalism, requires America be dismantled, brought into the soup to stir into one world poverty. Japan lost because they lacked man power, China has no duch deficit and China has always used 3rd parties to carry out the front of battle. China declared war intentions and plans in 1999, are doing a fine job in perparations. I don’t take lightly the war plans and declarations from China to Japan, nor to Korea, nor to the Philippines, nor to Polynesia and threats to Australia with demands they join their Asian Pacific alliance. China is spreading wings thru the world, using Muslims in their ignorance, to spread our lines thin and break the bank. We have no factories at home, we have no steel mills, no processing plants, no textile factories, we have nothing if we are at war, to provide essentials at home, not even natural resoures. China has been buying up factories, mines, timber, oil, scrap metals of every kind, lead, copper, tin, etc. In Idaho they have invaded, taken over buying out all our hay, rising costs from 50 a ton to 250 a ton, horses can’t be sold or given away, so out governor now has taken the ride to China to make deals and invited China to open a horse slauther plant in Mt. Home, horses can’t be sold now so cheap and China has that market now too. Sold them lands in Malad, boarder of UT and ID, why, not only farm but mines, and around Arco, a desolate area but just at the boarders of top secret INEEL, the Atomic Testing and Atomic City, why would they want that land? Etc. We are far more serious then most could imagine, then in So. America, I have been there, thousands of Chinese invading, Uraquay, Paraquay, Venzuala, Brazil, putting in nuclear plants with Iranian and Chinese scientists, arms manufacturing, etc. WHY? Could go on. Yes, we are wrong to put boots on ground in the middle east for sure, targeting taking out targets and leaving a note behind as a warning is what we should have done, but now, we show our weakness and cowardliness and prove Osama right, America will not stand by it’s allies. China sees very well, China is not Russia, they are much more dangerous because they don’t care of life. Russia was the threat of the Cold War, now, Russia, China, Korea, Iran, Venzuala, Packastan, India, now many others that now are able to be brought into the conflict with nukes. And whan a missle flies at us from one of these targets how and to whom do we resond. We are in serious dangers and our allies are finding we have no strength or willingness to protect or stand by our allies.

Bobby Ray, we’re out of Iraq. It didn’t go back to what it was. Saddam Hussein’s Sunni elite are out, the Shi’a majority dominate. The Christian community has been devastated. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed.

Iraq’s foreign policy changed: it was hostile to Iran, but now it’s friendly.

Mr Anderson I gots myself a mighty fear that you are right on the money. The only thing that keeps me going is that I was once just as fearful and hopeless with them communist and Arabs and Japanese.

Best I can tell China has itself some banking and land and social problems and they been kicking the can farther down the road instead of solving them. If that stuff gets out of hand it might not matter how many turbidium mines in Botswana they got leased.

Them elected boys in washington is all a bunch of scoundrels but them career boys is real clever at playing a long game. They turn lemonade into lemons and while everybody’s fretting they sour the other team’s drink and remake a batch of lemonade.

Your idea on one world poverty is darn good. I figure it is more complicated. There is factions pushing for it and factions pushing against it. Seems the local boys is mostly against it while them Washington scoundrels have been pushing for it though I can’t imagine what good it does them.

I guess we gots to wait and see.

Glans that’s the most depressing assessment of that there situation I done ever heard but it’s probably the most truthful. It almost seems like America’s long game is to create a formidable axis of evil from Libya to Egypt to Pakistan. Seems like they need themselves someone credible to fight like back in that world war 2. When all the dust gets settled maybe a lot of problems can be solved. And they is always solved at the losers expense.

You boys got me all feeling down. I think I’ll go and do a little fishing to cheer up. Ain’t nothing better than a big fat catfish with a bit of that thai green curry from the Asia store.

Good luck in fishing. I cant take things lightly myself, seen too much, been there, done that, as many others. My wife is from the Philippines, I worry of family there, the affects, the threats the attacks are real. Had a friend killed there as he was reporting on the NPA, Another Chinese arm or terrorists. He was young with 2 children and wife. China in demands for islands told Philipines if they resist is means war, then began flying attack jets of the Philippines, an Island, Saba taken over, many rapes, murders, etc. as they were declared bankrupt and taken. Chinese also moving in strength to French Polynesia. Also a cousin married a Vietnamese girl who was part of their re education program but escaped, they have been living in Vietnam since 1995, even the Vietnamese are begging for Americans to return to rid them of Chinese. So. America, was there, Uraquay, Paraquay, Brazil and Venzuala, etc. I see well what is happening here in the US, and here in Idaho, Chinese buying land, factories, businesses. They have deliberately planned and cornered the market they created for our horses, bought all the hay and drove prices so high we can’t afford the hay, I gave away 12, some very nice and papered horses, just could not compete in the feed cost now. since we don’t seem to have a voice, power or means, meat, milk, eggs, etc. proposed to go up at least 42% higher. perhaps a good idea for all to go fishing until events shake us out of our doldrums.
