The North Koreans are claiming they have a bustling tourist industry and by their standards this may very well be true, but by international standards it is a laughable claim:
Hmmm. Now, we’re used to fluff pieces from North Korea, like their uncovering of a unicorn lair and whatnot, but it’s sort of hard to imagine that tourists are flocking to the country. Still, that’s what North Korea’s state-sponsored Korean Central News Agency insists in its report today:
The number of arrivals from European countries is also on increase. The increase is fueled by many attractions. Eye-catching achievements made by the country in the effort for building a thriving socialist nation in recent years are one of the attractions.
So it’s sort of like Club Med but with more socialism? [Atlantic-Wire]
You can read the rest at the link, but as I have said before when people travel to North Korea they need to make the decision for themselves on whether they want to give money to the Kim regime that threatens the international community, kidnaps citizens from other countries, sponsors illegal operations, proliferates WMD, represses its people, and sends tens of thousands to gulags. If you support that kind of activity than feel free to visit North Korea; in fact I recommend you think about staying.
