GI Arrested for Altercation with Seoul Taxi Driver

The Korea Times has an article published about a GI behaving badly that I recommend people do not take at face value considering the frequent yellow journalism of the KT:

Seoul Suseo Police Station arrested an American soldier private first class (22) for violently harassing a taxi driver while he was driving his taxi on June 30.

The police said that the pfc, who is stationed at the Seoul Air Base, got on the taxi driven by Choi (46) at 5:10 A.M., and started beating and strangling him from behind where he was seated while the taxi was running on Cheongdam bridge.

Police, after investigating the case, found out that the taxi at the time of the accident was running with speed of faster than 100km/h.

The police also said that when Choi pulled over his taxi in Suseo-dong, Gangnam-gu, to get help, the private ditched the taxi and tried to flee the scene, and, as Choi chased after him, again threatened him with hostile action. [Korea Times]

One of the Unit there at K-16 personnel was restricted to base for a couple weeks because of an alcohol related incident. Hope he was from that unit.

    Go speed racer go.

100 KM/H in a taxi at 5 AM??? Heck Yeah believable. You tell a taxi driver to get you there fast, he will not mess around.

Suseo, uhmmm. Looks like our chap was on his way back to camp for PT formation after an over-nighter in the party zone. He sure as heck wasn’t returning TDY from Yongsan at that hour.

Didn’t anyone teach that chap it takes longer than a few seconds to properly choke someone out?

Utter journalistic failure. I can’t make heads or tails of what the hell happened here although I tend to agree Williams assessment is a possibility. 100KPH at 05:00? Hell yeah, easy. There was an accident?

All I got was a private was arrested. What happened?

How come a 22 year old private can’t outrun a 46 year old taxi driver?

Read the story stoopid. He was too drunk, he says he can’t remember anything. A drunk GI is like a water buffalo, even my grandmother would outrun it.

When I first read that I thought that scoundrel Tom had written “A drunk GI is like a water buffalo, even my grandmother would go down on it.” I reckon that explains a lot.
