Korea and Australia Reach Free Trade Agreement

» by in: Australia

What no crazy cow protests after this announcement!

Korea and Australia reached a deal on a bilateral free trade agreement that asks Australia to immediately and completely remove its 5 percent tariff on Korean passenger cars, the country’s no. 1 export to Australia, Korea’s trade ministry said yesterday. The agreement was announced at a trade ministers’ meeting on Wednesday in Bali, Indonesia, between Korean Trade Minister Yoon Sang-jick and his counterpart from Australia, Andrew Robb.

Based on the deal, Korea will eliminate tariffs of up to 300 percent on Australia’s major exports, notably agricultural products such as wheat, dairy and beef.

Korea’s trade ministry said that it tried to minimize the FTA’s impact on local farmers by agreeing to cut tariffs on Australian beef over 15 years. Korea is the third-largest buyer of Australian beef.  [Joong Ang Ilbo]

Just further evidence that the violent 2008 anti-US beef protests had little to do with the safety of US beef by the people who organized them and everything to do with using anti-US sentiment to achieve political goals.

Australian cows are naturally raised and fed grass so they never get Mad Cow. American cows are diseased with Mad Cow because they’re fed unnatural feeds made of ground up garbage including meats from other cows. Dirty US beef also contain steroids and other dangerous chemicals.

So what’s your take on tainted pork sent to Korea from Chile Tom? It happened more than once. Why no protests against Chile? Why no outrage? Little hypocritical isn’t it? Maybe not.

Unlike the lies the Korean media told about US beef, the tainted pork thing was true.

Also, what exactly do Aussie farmers feed their cattle Tom? Please elaborate. Are they all grain fed? If so, what kind of grain and where does it come from anyway?

I don’t believe the food is safe in the US of A. That said, why would/should Koreans complain when they knowingly consume toxic Kimchi from China? Where’s the Korean outrage over that?

Korean restaurants and shops will continue to import Australian and American beef at lower prices and sell it as Korean beef at much, much higher prices. Korean consumers are gouged every day by their Korean brothers and sisters. That’s the real beef scandal in Korea.

As if that’s going to affect the prices at retail.
