Korean Cyber-Command Leader To Face Election Influencing Charges

Here is the latest on the ROK election influencing scandal:

A mid-ranking official of the military cyber warfare unit will be indicted on Tuesday on charges of launching an online smear campaign to influence last year’s presidential election, the defense ministry said.

The director of the cyber command’s psychological warfare team, identified only by his surname Lee, will face indictment without physical detention for ordering his subordinates to post politically biased writings and to destroy evidence, according to the military prosecution.

The indictment came after the military investigation team announced earlier this month its two-month probe into the case, which found the mid-ranking official Lee, along with 10 other lower-level officials, had posted some 286,000 writings against then opposition presidential candidate Moon Jae-in and his party on social networking sites.

It is in violation of their obligation as public officials to stay neutral, according to the prosecution.  [Yonhap]

“It is in violation of their obligation as public officials to stay neutral, according to the prosecution.”

Of course, public-school teachers who belong to the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (KTU) and who are mostly “progressive” exempt themselves from this obligation despite being state employees themselves, just because they’re so darn special. See here, for example:

““The Park Geun-hye administration is treating a legal railway workers’ strike as illegal and rashly issuing arrest warrants for the leaders of the labor union,” said KTU General Secretary Byeon Seong-ho. “If the administration does not take its knife from the necks of the workers and the people, we will have to become knives and bring this administration down.””

If that’s political “neutrality,” then I’m freakin’ Tan’gun!

BTW, if that “human knives” metaphor sounds familiar, check this out:

“North Korean leader Kim Jong-un ordered front-line soldiers to become “human bullets” and “bombs” to protect him, the state media reported Saturday, amid rising concerns over potential political instability in the communist state.”

One really has to wonder what KTU General Secretary Byeon Seong-ho likes to read in his free time.

The Koreans would be wise not to tangle with the Cybermen.
