A group of 175 South Koreans have been withdrawn from a jointly run factory complex in North Korea amid concerns of increasing tension between the two countries. The emergency evacuation follows an earlier North Korean rejection of a South Korean demand for talks on the labour complex that has been closed nearly a month. Both sides have warned of taking “grave measures” over the dispute but did not say what they might be. In a statement, the South Korean minister in charge of inter-Korean relations said he was worried

SKorea demands talks with NKorea on closed factory

The South Koreans have historically been susceptible to the whims of the norK regime during various cooperation schemes. It appears the ROK’s feel they are about to be burned again. Certainly, the Chaebols and business community are worried they may lose access to a much treasured supply of norK near-slave labor. One should not enter business dealings with a country one is at war with – and has a track record of being unpredictable. South Korea on Thursday warned of an unspecified “grave measure” if North Korea rejects talks on

When people think of provocations from North Korea most people today think that the deadliest incidents from the rogue regime have been targeted against South Korea. The largest loss of life from one provocation by North Korea was the sinking of the ROK Navy ship the Cheonan in 2010 that killed 46 personnel on the ship and wounded 56 more. What many people don’t realize is that the US military historically has been subject to many provocations from North Korea as well to include the 2nd deadliest attack the shoot

No Christmas tree will be lit up this year on the DMZ: In the spirit of love and peace, the Demilitarized Zone will not be lit up like a Christmas tree this holiday season as it has in years past. The Military Evangelical Association of Korea had sought approval from the South Korea Ministry of National Defense to light three giant towers in the shape of Christmas trees at different points about two miles south of the North Korean border. However, the request has been withdrawn in the wake of

Korean Defense Minister Apologizes For Lax DMZ Border Security

It seems like the fallout from the recent North Korean soldier defection is continuing to spread: South Korea’s defense chief apologized publicly Monday after his military failed to spot a North Korean soldier defecting to the South across their heavily guarded border. No one detected the soldier – even though he scaled barbed wire fences on the South Korean side of the border – until he knocked on the door of front-line South Korean barracks to say he was defecting. The Oct. 2 incident raised serious questions about South Korea’s
