If you haven’t heard of Kiana Kim you might be hearing a lot about her in the coming months in Korea as she is set to appear in Playboy Magazine next month.  She was born in Seoul and moved to the U.S. when she was five years old and is now a lingerie and bathing suit model.

A highway billboard using a saluting Adolf Hitler to advertise a Thai wax museum has been covered up after complaints from the Israeli and German ambassadors, the museum’s manager said Sunday.

“The idea came from a creative (advertising) agency, and we did not mean to cause any offense,” said Somporn Naksuetrong, the manager of the Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks in the seaside resort town of Pattaya.

The billboard, which in Thai language said, “Hitler is not dead,” had been up for several weeks on the main road from the capital Bangkok to Pattaya and was meant to promote the museum’s planned opening next month.

“We weren’t showing his image to celebrate him,” Somporn said in a telephone interview. “We think he is an important historical figure, but in a horrible way. We apologize for causing any offense which was not at all intended. We did not realize it would make people so angry.”

The use of Nazi imagery does not stir the same emotional reaction in Asia as in the West, and Thailand has had past instances where icons of the genocidal German regime have been used for advertising and entertainment.

The United States has a history of using Nazis for Comedic entertainment. Mel Brooks, who is Jewish, wrote and filmed ‘The Producers’. The 1968 movie which was the original basis for the Tony award winning Broadway musical, featured the song ‘Springtime for Hitler’.

Also there was the 1960′s television show, Hogan’s Heroes. Most of the main nazi characters in the show were played by Jews. BTW I own all six seasons of this show which are available  on DVD.

Billboards or any advertisements for ‘The Producers’ or ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ would be offensive too and I’m sure there were some for the former in New York City while the Broadway show was playing. Why didn’t anyone feel offended?

Director Roman Polanski was arrested by Swiss police as he flew in for the Zurich Film Festival and faces possible extradition to the United States for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977, authorities said Sunday.

Polanski was scheduled to receive an honorary award at the festival when he was apprehended Saturday at the airport, the Swiss Justice Ministry said in a statement. It said U.S. authorities have sought the arrest of the 76-year-old director around the world since 2005.

“There was a valid arrest request and we knew when he was coming,” ministry spokesman Guido Balmer told The Associated Press. “That’s why he was taken into custody.”

Polanski, the director of such classic films as “Chinatown” and “Rosemary’s Baby,” fled the U.S. for France in 1978, a year after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with the underage girl.

Polanski has asked a U.S. appeals court in California to overturn a judges’ refusal to throw out his case. He claims misconduct by the now-deceased judge who had arranged a plea bargain and then reneged on it.

What do you consider more idiotic- An adult having sex with a 13-year-old girl or an adult pleading guilty to it and not expecting to serve jail time for the crime?

The remains of a former model whose killing set off an international manhunt for a reality television star were so badly mutilated that investigators had to use the serial numbers on her breast implants to identify her.

The man charged with Jasmine Fiore’s murder, reality TV show contestant Ryan Alexander Jenkins, has been on the run since reporting her missing the evening of Aug. 15. Her nude body had been found that morning, stuffed in a bloodstained suitcase in a trash bin in Buena Park, an Orange County city about 20 miles southeast of Los Angeles, but authorities wouldn’t be able to identify her for a few more days.

Detectives tracked the serial number on the implants because they could not use fingerprints or dental records, said Farrah Emami, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney’s office.

The identification via the breast implants don’t surprise me. Should I turn up dead and mutilated, a coroner would do something similar with me. I have a mechanical(St. Jude) heart valve.  RIP Ms. Fiore.

It is also the first Korean War movie made – which makes it worth watching just for that…

I don’t like telling too much about plot, because I don’t like knowing much about a film before I see it, so I’m not going to get into this one too deeply.

I can picture a percentage of Koreans not carrying for one of the first scenes that show civilian-clad North Koreans – or South Korean sympathizers – trying to ambush the GIs.  Some younger Koreans would also say the opening scene with American soldiers shot in the back of the head with their hands tied is US propaganda.

Over the course of the movie, you hit quiet a few socio-political notes.  Some interesting, some forced.

Occasionally the acting is too melodramatic.

I’d still recommend it — but my tastes are pretty broad and my friends and family have often not cared a whole lot for things I found value in….so….be warned.

I – myself – wouldn’t pay $5.99 for it in some Walmart impulse-buy bin near the checkout lane, but it is definitely worth a Netflix rental….
