This one looks very interesting since it’s a topic I’ve been watching and writing about since about 1998.  Here is the abstract: This paper analyzes the symbiotic and mutually reinforcing relationship between the anti-American movement and other social movements in democratic South Korea since 1987. Proposing a new typology of anti-Americanism, the paper formulates and develops an argument that the anti-American movement has substantially contributed to the success and survival of South Korea’s social movements. The anti-American movement should not be classified as one of the many social movements active

This is actually just another example that Korea is a rule by law, instead of a rule of law nation because these guys have been violating the National Security Laws for years: Detectives from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and the Security Investigative Team of the National Policy Agency (NPA) raided nineteen places, including the South Korea branch office of the Pan-Korean Alliance for Reunification (PKAR), on charges of violating the National Security Law on Thursday. It was reported that the NIS arrested six persons including Lee Kyu-jae, 73 years

Civic groups topped the list of upstanding organizations with 35 percent, followed by

When will the media stop calling these people civic groups and instead call them anti-democracy advocates?: Seoul police yesterday expanded its investigation on the assault on ruling Grand National Party lawmaker Chun Yu-ok, saying her attacker might have planned the attack beforehand with four other civic group members at the scene. Chun the same day proposed a partial revision to the Act on the Compensation and Honor Restoration of Democratization Movement Activists. While working on a bill to reexamine state compensation awarded to leftist activists who took part in a

I am busy working on the Cows Gone Wild!! Hysteria review and other items on my main www.usinkorea.org website. I decided to start a blog associated with the site where I’ll put up news and works-in-progress as they arise – while leaving the main site for the big updates —– because I expect things to be back to normal in Korean anti-US/USFK protest culture:  meaning, I expect a spike in activity about once a year. You can access the blog at this link. I’m not thrilled with the older version
