March 20th, 2013 at 6:48 am » Comments (87)

The next time a GI gets in trouble after defending himself from a Korean mob we can all now point back to this incident to show he should be let off lightly: SEOUL — A Korean night club manager who police say stabbed three U.S. soldiers during a brawl was in jail Tuesday after being charged with causing injury to others. He was not charged with more serious crimes, such as assault or attempted murder, because he only stabbed the soldiers Saturday after being forced to defend himself, a Dongducheon

Below are the USFK Court Martial Results for January 2013 that were recently published on the USFK website. One case of interest from the court martial results was that a CW2 was acquitted of sexual assault but was convicted of other crimes and sent to confinement for two months at Camp Humphreys. That will probably not look good on his next OER. For the ROK criminal prosecution results it was once again dominated by traffic related incidents to include six, yes six! more DUIs. This just further shows the indiscipline

You would think that with a major exercise going on during a time of heightened tensions on the peninsula that soldiers would get the message they need to be on their best behavior. Instead it has been one high profile incident after another. Now in the last 24 hours two GIs in two different incidents assaulted Korean policemen: Two drunken American soldiers were arrested for allegedly assaulting local police in two separate cases occurring early Sunday, Seoul police said. A 19-year-old soldier from a U.S. Army base in Dongducheon, just

Remember the six US soldiers accused of sexual harassment on the subway?  Well two of them have been hit with UCMJ while the ROK authorities decide what to do with this case: While local authorities continue to investigate a subway incident in which a half-dozen U.S. soldiers were accused of harassing a Korean woman, the American military has started handing out its own punishment. The commander of the 2nd Infantry Division’s Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion imposed “non-judicial punishment” under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice on two

USFK has posted the December 2012 court martial and ROK criminal prosecution results on their website. This means that when I have time I will put together the 2012 statistics for USFK servicemember crime in South Korea. For December there was two guys convicted of various crimes including abusive sexual contact and did not receive a discharge. I sure hope their commanders do not let soldiers with convictions like this to re-enlist. In the ROK criminal prosecution results more of the guys caught smuggling and dealing drugs were convicted. One

Here is the latest in GI stupidity via the Marmot’s Hole: SBS reports that a 22-year-old USFK private has been arrested in Pyeongtaek after he allegedly followed a young Korean woman into an elevator and suddenly showed her a lewd video on his mobile phone yesterday afternoon. They were the only two on the elevator at the time. Frightened, she tried to hit the emergency bell, but the GI grabbed her wrist to stop her. He then ran off. Or so it is alleged. The whole incident took 10 seconds.

2011 Statistics of US Military Traffic Related Crime In South Korea

March 14th, 2013 at 6:32 pm » Comments (11)

Earlier this week I posted the 2011 statistics for ROK criminal prosecutions of US military servicemembers serving in South Korea.  After compiling the statistics it was pretty clear that a major reason the USFK crime rate has increased in recent years is because of the change in the USFK driving policy back in 2008.  This change allowed more servicemember drivers on the Korean roads which statistically means more opportunities for accidents and other infractions to occur that will be added to the crime rate.  Here is a consolidated list of

2011 Statistics of South Korean Criminal Prosecutions of US Military Servicemembers

March 13th, 2013 at 6:33 am » Comments (14)

Due to the amount of attention in regards to US military crime in South Korea that the recent Itaewon Pellet Bandits caused; I decided to go ahead and compile USFK crime statistics from 2011 to see if the claims of out of control GI crime is true. I had previously not compiled the 2011 statistics due to the yellow journalism of the Korea Times after compiling the 2010 statistics. However, due to the high profile nature of the recent Itaewon incident I figured that compiling the statistics would be useful

You would think that this idiot would realize that at a time like now with all the Korean media attention on GI crime that any little thing committed by anyone associated with USFK will make national headlines: PYEONGTAEK, South Korea, March 9 (Yonhap) — A U.S. Army mechanic working in South Korea was caught by police for threatening a South Korean citizen with a knife during a road dispute, officers here said Saturday. A 48-year-old aircraft maintenance crew member from the 8th U.S. Army, identified only by the initial J,
