ATTENTION YONGSAN FAMILIES: Volunteer to host a Korean student in your home for a week as part of USFK’s Good Neighbor English Camp from May 12-18. Volunteer U.S. families (with or without children) are needed to host one or more students for six nights in their homes, providing them breakfast each day along with six evening meals. Cots are available if needed. Host families are requested to transport the student(s) to designated assembly points (Seoul American High School) in the morning and pick them up at night every day. 2nd Infantry Division Honors Community Volunteers

The 2nd Infantry Division, USAG Red Cloud and Area I honored more than 100 community volunteers at the Warrior’s Club on Camp Casey April 24. The check presented during the ceremony represented over half a million dollars in service to our community!

The Ninth Annual USFK Good Neighbor English Camp will be held May 12-18. Participants are 65 10th grade Korean students from Seoul and Gyeonggi Province areas. Volunteer U.S. families (with or without children) are needed to host one or more students for six nights in their homes, providing them breakfast each day along with five evening meals. Despite all the recent high profile GI crime incidents lately, it is good to see that there are still US military servicemembers doing the right thing in Korea: Four Marines rescued a Korean from a burning building after a fire broke out March 8 in Pohang, Republic of Korea. This is a pretty cool story about a US Army NCO recognized by the Ganghwa Island Mayor for his public service in regards to maintaining trails on Koryo Mountain: The mayor of a South Korean island recognized a U.S. Army staff sergeant for helping to keep the trails of a landmark mountain open for hikers. Ganghwa Mayor Yu Cheon-ho presented a service award to Staff Sgt. Ryan Hayes, the noncommissioned officer in charge of Detachment J, for clearing the trails on Koryo Mountain. 2ID Soldier Saves Life of Korean Man Involved In an Auto Accident

Great job SFC David George!: Sgt. 1st Class David George, from Seattle and a Blackhawk helicopter crew chief with 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Inf. Div., was driving home when he noticed a vehicle had crashed into a tree off the road. A bystander was trying to unsuccessfully pull the driver out of the vehicle. George handed the bystander his phone to call for emergency services while George assisted the driver. Moments before the car burst into flames, George pulled the driver to safety. “Luckily I was there,” said George.

A Korean family thanks a USFK servicemember for rendering aid to their injured teenage son: A South Korean teenager and his family visited a U.S. military base here last week to thank a soldier for helping the young man who was injured when his scooter collided with a taxi. Pfc. Clifford A. The fine work by the US Marine Corps with their Toys for Tots program continues: – U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Korea delivered a portion of Toys for Tots donations collected during this year’s drive to three orphanages in the cities of Pocheon and Yangju, Republic of Korea during their fourth of nine trips into the Gyeonggi Province, Dec. 17. “Last year we supported more closely to Seoul.
